Pretty crap everywhere then for consistent wind and waves-good time to surf.

Try Port Douglas, North of Cairns,

Warm water, warm climate, the odd snapping log but generally the wind is good,

South coast PNG and other places in the South Pacific. Not much wind in the Mentawais but sick waves!

I spent a month working in the eastern Islands of PNG and the southern Louisiade archipelago at the end of last year. Absolutely fantastic spot - pics here:

In June there will be good trades through the Louisiades and coast near Moresby. Pretty isolated place though, and 3rd world level of development - once you are out in the islands, sailing canoes are the main mode of transport, and there is no electricity in the villages. Definitely a boat based trip - from what I saw, the islands on the southern side, facing onto the coral sea, should get swell. Islands as sweet as any in the south pacific.

If you have Google earth, do a search on panarairai island

For a more run of the mill kiting trip, try New Cal, Vanuatu, Fiji, Samoa....they should also have waves and swell in June.

we will be doing a two week kite tour into the SE islands of PNG later this year in the peak of the windy season, essentially a 500km down winder from rossel island back to port moresby. Sorry its fully booked already.

There is some amazing potential out there, consistent trade winds and 100's of kms of reef systems and lagoons.

We have some great kite beaches closer to Port Moresby that are safe and easy to get to from the city. Virgin now flys to PNG from brisbane at a reasonable price a couple of times a week. the only problem is finding accommodation at a cheap price.

if you are seriously thinking about a trip to PNG PM me
