I've been a participant for four years now and I don't think it's any worse than when I first joined. I reckon the agro comes and goes in cycles and after a while you learn to roll with it. There's still plenty of good humour and good info to be found.
My 2c for seabreeze sanity is -
1. Pick your battles - some things are worth fighting for, most are not.
2. Participate strategically - if there is an issue that is both important and contentious, make your point with whatever degree of flair and/or diplomacy you like, and then let others make what they will of it. Some will like it, some won't and if you're a true artist some may even take a moment to reflect, and possibly form new opinions. Even if people are wrong and/or stupid, telling them that is unlikely to support them in reaching a better considered perspective.
3. Don't take bait, but if you find that you have, just spit out the hook and walk away - no shame, no blame.
4. Don't feed the trolls.
5. Be thankful that you get to participate in this fine sport.
6. Try to avoid serious, numbered or bullet-pointed holdings-forth on forum participation philosophies
