Don't know about the best agents but from what I've seen over here the majority of the shops over here will generally trade on their brands or other "known" brand (sorry no offence intended best isn't comomn place on W Coast).

If you've got your gear through discount Internet sites then you may not have much "good Karma" with the shop.

Suss out the shop, they should help you out, if not there are other shops.

May your winds be steady and the all waves line up

Sell them on seabreeze. I reckon if they are in good nick you would get about a third of what you paid for them. (I fly Best Kites too - you have to be realistic about resale when they are so cheap to begin with and there were some great deals with 3 for 2 etc etc)

This time of year wont be anyway near as easy to flog gear as when its getting towards the southern kiting seasons.

Mate, your better off selling on seabreeze... A shop owner will never give you what you want for them, they will want to pay as little as possible so they can make as much as possible on the sale/trade...

Trading in your gear is a quick solution however not the best solution for your wallet...

If the're in good nick and priced right, they will sell fast on here...

how much money would I expect to loss on a Best kite after a year

You would loose a lot less comparatively on a best kite than you would on any other kite...

I'm not sure what you paid for your kite's, but what ever you paid was cheaper than the other's. Given the state of the second hand market this is how I see it...

for example...

If you paid $1100 for best kite approx 12/13m, a year later you could expect to get back any where between $400/$500 for a complete kit... 55% to 65% loss

If you paid $1500 for a naish/north/LF 12/13m etc etc, a year later you could expect say between $400/$600 for a complete kit... 60% to 73% loss

If you purchased you kites in our 3 for 2 deal. On average you would stand to loose approx 40% on each kite...

You dont get good money back on any brand kite, period.

But then you shouldnt be buying kites with a view of getting your money back. At best prices when they were 3 for 2, they really were "disposable" kite prices, i.e buy them, thrash em for 2 seasons, if you get $100 a kite after that, then be happy.

also look at it like this, loosing 50% on best kites is better than loosing 50% on the other more expensive brands. 50% of less is less than 50% of more...

Read what I said iti... I said you would loose a lot lees comparatively then on other brands... I did not say you would be able to sell them for more than other brands as second hand kite's are not worth much, no matter what brand.

Iti,
its a lot harder to get your money back on a kite you spend 2000 bucks on than one you spend 1000 on. I don't think there are many shops that trade in kites period. The shops i know of will let you sell your kites on consignment basis and take a percentage.
Try taking your 2004 model car into the shop and asking for a 2006 model- you will loose a lot more than you will on kites. If a kite is 2004 and more recent and in good nick it should still be worth 500 bucks or so. Yours should be worth a fortune since you have rare models since yargas come in odd sizes and you claim you have a 12 and 16. It seems to me you haven't used them too much at all since you don't know what model/size they are.
PS: you won't be able to trade in a used 2004 nemisis or yarga for a hellfish - sorry mate.

Brian, this thread was not about the Hellfish... It was about re-sale prices on kite/ trade-in prices...

I'm happy to discuss the in's & out's of the HF/nemesis & yarga but can you do me a favor and start it in a thread of it's own... Lets not hijack this thread

If your talking about me... the answer is NO i do not trade kites on new ones... You would have to ask steve @ KP on the east coast if he does...

I sell all my demo kites on seabreeze. If you price them correctly and the're in good nick, you will have no problems selling them.

As I said above, you would get more for them on here than you ever would if you took them to a shop to trade or consign. A shop would ask for a percentage of the sale price for consigning them and you most certainly would not get want you want for them in a trade-in situation either. That goes for any of the brands around...

you guys will be suprised how quick stuff sells on the boards here - even stuff you might not think would sell quickly like footpads or dvd's gets snapped up fast. there does seem to be a glut of kites on there now though, just bide your time till spring/summer when the newbies and students go bargain hunting and you'll get a good sale.

a shop which promotes certain brands of kites and products will trade those products back at a considerably higher price than a product it doesn't stock. if you are already a customer then this counts double.the internet don't seem to trade or offer friendly assistance face to face or phone to phone. care?

Shops have no interest in secondhand kites.
The technology is moving along too fast.
The new kite is obsolete as soon as you pay for it and leave the store.
