if i dont take my kite gear to NZ ?

im going to NZ for 3 months soon. im undecided whether its really worth carting my kites over there. I've read positives and also a lot of negatives about kiting conditions in new zealand. im thinking the summer in new zealand is iffy as far as wind goes? i have 'WA' kite sizes. 12 and 9. i plan to travel and see the country, not stay in one place the whole time.

any honest advice gratefully recieved

I have a friend that kites just north of Auckland and loves it. Says Wellington can be pretty gusty but there are some great spots in the north of the north island. Having said that I went over for two weeks and had great weather but no wind Apparently thats not the norm

Christchurch and Dunedin (and points between) are pretty good inthe summer..just invest in a fat wetsuit for the prevailing noreasters.

i went there last year this time, north & south.

i dont remember ever thinking jeez, these winds are great - i wish i had my kite.

instead i was thinking how much pain i was in from learning to snowboard.
ow. i still remember the pain....

bring your gear across although i'd leave the 9m at home and try to borrow a 16m. At the moment we have had a week of 20knt SW winds with
another 3-4 days forecast. Last year january thru to march in auckland
we where kiting probley 5 days a week at least. The south island should give you some good kiting if you are down there.
If your in auckland get in touch if you want because local knowledge goes a long way

cheers Paul

nice one paul. sounds like sound advice :-)

i will be in auckland from the 15th nov so may get in touch slightly nearer the time. and your so right, local knowledge can make a huge diff, escp where tides are involved! (im from the UK so sort of used to ebbs and flows). so now im hanging out for a week of constant seabreeze in perth before i leave! <pray>

thanks again.
