Last year there were various ideas about getting kiters to chip in a few bucks and pay someone big and scary to patrol the carpark. If I was big and scary and didn't kite but needed some dosh, I'd be up for going down on windy days, and making myself known to all kiters and saying, $10 and I'll watch your car. 20 kiters and you've got $200 for an arvo's work and the kiters have some peace of mind. A shame to have to resort to that sort of thing but it seems like it's a chronic problem.

My best wishes to WA kiters in coming up with creative ways to deter thieves. I'm just glad it seems to be less of an issue at my local spots.

Sorry djdojo but if you were 'big and scary and didn't kite' hanging around at Woodies you'd need all your articulacy and Plato-escue dialogue to convince me to give you 10 bucks?

I was there yesterday - unfortunately it's the Wild West Point of the Wild West at times.

I think of myself as more Kantian than Platonic, but you make a good point.

Still, someone must know someone who'd be up for it and who would have some references and could be vouched for? If the regulars got together and did a small run of basic flyers to put under windscreen wipers and spread the word, printed a t-shirt or two for the guy in question so he could be identified as the trustworthy one ...

It's a bizarre world in which WA's economy is booming like it is and it still seems easier to some folk to smash n grab rather than get some legitimate employment ...

Would this be a racket? I was hoping to move away from destiny:)

A Car Black Box Camera? With a wireless to ftp to your server?:)

I mean, Broome guy smashed 3 windows on our rental car. Didn't take anything.
$1400 out of my pocket. No insurance will cover you there.

The Cockburn council have a patrol they drives around in winter with frequency and more frequent in Summer because of those ARSEh#$%S. That is very unfortunate but you can report it to the council and the security firm that does it.
I hate theft with a passion if I ever catch anyone good help them and me because there will be blood spilt.

If the rotti doesn't like thieves try throw some of the gravy leftover from last night's roast at the thief first, surely that will improve the taste?

It was certainly a ****ty end to a great day. They stuck a screwdriver or something down the window (no window frames on the doors) and levered the whole thing out in one big piece. They took the wallet and iphone but left the $100 odd worth of CD's and brand new converse shoes so they were definately only after one thing.

^^^ Woodies carparks. So yeah, I'm offering my 2c from the other side of the continent, based on out-of-date knowledge of the place (last there in 2002) and my recollection of the repeated posts about this problem over the years.

For those with sedans ... put all valuables in boot, leave door unlocked/window a bit down (it's hot anyway), so they have no reason to smash it and leave $10 in gold change and a pair of $5 sunnies in the centre console so they have something to nick & then clear off. Don't lock glove box as they'll smash it. Anyone with a hatchback or station wagon is stuffed, sorry.

As a regular to Woodies for a number of years now I recommend the following:

- If you are going to beach 3 walk and stash your phone and wallet in your bag and keep an eye on it. Generally the scum don't leave the car parks anyway.

- ideally do not take valuables with you but that is not going to work for a lot of people.

- Leave NOTHING in view that suggests you are on the water i.e. towels over things that is like a chumming the water.

- Personally I would not leave the car door open as these scum bags will probably take a ** in the back seat.

- Buy a key safe they take care of any need to stash your keys!

- I would like to get a in car safe in the boot of my car

- Make sure your insurance covers the potential break in and personal items!

I exercise the above and have not been broken into YET*

Last year we actually busted them in the act and called the police quoting car description and number plate numbers however their reply was that they cannot do anything about it, still got a good idea of who they are next time we will take the law into our own hands. Membership at the Jervous bay sailing club is looking very inviting for this summer.

Yeah it's annoying, unless the police catch him in the act then there is little they can do.

On the other hand, I'm sure they accept gopro footage as evidence...

carcamera.com.au, had a quick squizz, looks exi for commercial customers, perhaps a camera phone or maybe someone could write an app for this for low MB cctv in ur phone and a sign saying this car is cctv protected, the camera has been on for at least half an hour and if you are reading this sign your face has just been up loaded to 458 servers worldwide, no one is gonna miss ur mug now and theres no way that info is gonna be deleted too easily, SMILE ;)
For the record Im big and Ugly and mean looking and have tough stickers for full effect and can provide that security and as Im headed to WA in about a month would provide that in exchange for a few lessons, Ive been a member here for a while but have only got to body dragging as the lessons I had were exi and the dude I got was a bit of an attitude problem and Im old and injured and have many other things happening in my life but this season I'm gonna do the hard yards and get on my feet and fly, I'm determined to that rottnest to safety bay run, that vid from last year was just epic.

Get an App for your phone called FindMe or similar. If your phone gets stolen you can access the internal GPS remotely from another phone. Find out where your phone is and go belt 'em!

In fact, leave an old phone on a seat with the window down...

Maybe, wait till they take the phone home, ring the cops with location, get them busted...wait for the cops to leave...and then go and belt them!
Double Victory!
