Heyy.

I kite at Yeppoon regularly. Up at Rydges will be fine, just walk down the beach and you'll be right. any of the following winds will be fine; n, ne, e, se, s. if you kite further towards yeppoon or at main beach just stay out the clubbies area. thats all we ask.. pretty much the whole stretch from rydges to yeppoon is good for kiting, there are obvious rocks to stay away from at the north end of main beach but other than that you'll be good.. There is usually someone out kiting somewhere along that stretch so come down and have a chat..

Hope this helps.. post anymore questions and I'll try get back to you..

Farnborough is pretty good usually as you don't get so many crew all bunched up like you do closer to the main beach. I was there around Chrissy a few years ago and the wind can dissapear for a few days if you get a decent storm come through. But the days it was on, it was awesome fun ;)

Enjoy,

D

Heyy.

We don't often have a crowd these days so you don't have anything to worry about in that department..

+1 to the Yeppoon crowd this year, migrating from the land to the sea for summer.
But will be getting some professional lessons first.
I apologise in advance for being a kite surfing newbie

Any local rules and dangers I should be aware of?

Heyy ex2500 & Goz..

you guys ride at Yeppoon??

What gear are you on?!

Only local rule you have to follow is STAY AWAY FROM THE CLUBBIES AREA !! You only have to worry about that on Main Beach at Yeppoon and Emu Park so its not hard to stay away..

Other than that just look out for your fellow kiters, give them a hand if they need it and they will do the same for you..

WELCOME TO YEPPOON!!

Hi Jamie lee
I have been riding Naish CULTS for the last season there is a group of about 6 most ride North. We very rarly kite next to the sailing club, usually Farnborough, mulumbin or big dune.I think i have met u once before maybe last season.Yep maybe we should meet again, and exchange phone numbers that way we can let u know where we are heading. As they say the mor the merrier! On the last big south easterly blow we did a downwinder from The Bluff (in town) to Sandy Point took us a few hours but it was awsome fun. any way catch up with u later.

The classic SE downwinder is Emu Park to Farnborough.

The classic downwinder is more Todd Av to Big Dune lately. Get a bit more of a wave in that run.

heyy,

The original downwinders that the 'original' yeppoon kiters did were:

SE - Emu Park(fishermans beach) to Yeppoon Main beach, stopping in at the smaller beaches along the way (Kinka, Mulambin, Kemp, Lammemoor).

NE - Corio Bay to Yeppoon Main Beach, just riding along the coast the whole way..

Yeah- talking lately. We've been heading up to Big Dune, and a few boys said they went right up to Sandy Point which would have been fun. IMO going around headlands is just a tad boring. All you do is jump- dangle- land.

they only time you will go round rocky headlands is when you are going from beach to beach on the SE downwinder.. You don't spend the whole time going around headlands and even when you are you stay a fair distance away from the headland..(for safety reasons obviously)

its a good experience..you should just do it once and see how you like it..

Jamie Lee,

By chance, did you get taught to kitesurf by Andrew in yeppoon about 2003?
He used to do downwinders with his son Nathan who wouldn't have been more than about 12 years old at the time. Always rode a Gorilla and home made custom boards.

Back then I rode a JP 272 Wave and 5.8 Ezzy and drove a grey hilux wagon but I was far too old for you to notice me

I could have guessed you rode a yellow Peter Lynn Arc because Andrew sold those to everyone in town

In 2002 the only LEI was ridden by one of the Fee brothers from Lammermoor.

I wish I still lived in Yeppoon, it's a funtastic place

Gavin it was, he was riding a North kite.. He also rode a Peter Lynn Phantom, lol. Everyone in town at that period had at least one Peter Lynn kite. lol
