Hey crew

Just got offered a job at the central coast, and am planning a move down there from Northern NSW.

Just wondering where the good places are to live in terms of access to good kiting spots. I would also like to minimise commuting time to less than 1hr, and I think my office will be in Woy Woy. I prefer riding in the surf so those are the kind of spots I want nearby.

Any input is appreciated. Look forward to seeing some of you on the water

Cheers

The best place to kite on the central coast and IMO one of the best places to kite in AUS is the box off umina beach when its on. Waves can go for hundreds of meters in the right conditions. Its also a great sup wave. I've never found anywhere I like to kite as much as that place on a good day. Great bunch of kiters there too. Pity I don't live there any more. You do need to travel up the coast a bit for NE winds though.

I would look around the nicer parts of the peninsula. south umina, ettalong, booker bay. across the bridge dalys point, st huberts island. There are plenty of nice parts around there just avoid the central part of umina/woy woy. Great part of the world, great place to live, Sydney is only 1 hr away.

Thanks for the reply Bennie, I will look at those places.

I have been looking at Umina beach for a while now wondering what it would be like to kite, and you have just confirmed that it would be alot of fun. I initially wanted to live here but then thought about where I could kite in a NE typical of summer after work during daylight savings. It loks like the closest beaches to the north that are kiteable in a NE are Avoca and then Terrigal. Macmasters looks like the headland would make the wind too gusty.

some guys do kite the north part of umina/ettalong in NE but it is gusty and off shore, fun but somewhat dangerous. wamberal is the closest ne beach. 20 mins drive(would be a good place to live too) but nth enterance is stronger cleaner wind about 45 mins drive from umina. You do get more ne days than southerlys but you still get plently of southerly days. If your going to be working in woywoy then I would live local. The roads on the central coast are pretty poor and overcrowded so getting around takes time.

There are definitely more kiting spots in the northern part of the central coast( lakes too), but the best kiting spot BY FAR is right down south at the box.

Once you get here we will hook you up with the small but dedicated NE downwinder team........ There are heaps of places to kite in any direction within one hour of Umina all year round. It's not hard to get in eight hours of kiting per week.

Umina Beach - SSW to SE (NE is possible in the channel for the thrill seekers). Waves are not generally large, but a 200m ride is an acceptable replacement, helpful locals
Wamberal - NE/E, The NE is a bit gusty due to the headland, but it is close to a bunch of good restaurants
Toowoon Bay - Only ever kited here in a NE, (it is very small flat water location, but you can get out onto the open ocean)
Picnic Point (The Entrance) - SW to NW, super smooth and super shallow (think two inches), generally gusty
Canton Beach (Toukley) - SW (SE should work), quite smooth close to shore, super choppy 200m out (you can surf the chop on big days!!!)
New Secret Location (San Remo), S, SE untried
Budgewoi/Hali - N/NE/E - quite smooth close to shore, choppy 100m out, helpful locals
Norah Head - NE to E, an ocean side spot that is protected (mostly) by a rock reef. Can get a nice swell travelling gap
Birdie Beach to Norah Head - NE (E to SE should work), excellent downwinder location, great waves, odd shark, dolphin, turtle, odd big FIN!!!
Caves Beach - NE to SE, great wave location
Swansea Channel (Salts) - NE, best flat water spot I have tried, really consistent summer breeze when it blows
Swansea Co-Op - SSW to W, a good flat water spot, super shallow, wear booties for the razor fish
Squids @ Belmont - NW to W, a good flat water spot, super shallow, wear booties for the razor fish
Redhead to Blacksmiths - NE (E to SE should work), excellent downwinder location, great waves, odd humongous shark
Nobbies - NE, great surf location and also good behind the rock reef

Hey Bigtone

Went for a drive around San Remo last weekend looking for a place to launch from, but couldn't find anywhere that looked suitable.

Are you able to disclose a good location to launch from?

Anyone getting out riding this weekend? Hopefully decent wind both days
