I've recently found out that the kiting beach just east of the boat ramp, where all the new parking bays are, has been designated an "off leash dog beach" by Sutherland Council.

So expect to see lots of people and their dogs on the beach there. Be tolerant and assume they think we probably don't belong on this beach.

I have always assumed they all were "off leash dog beach's" in Kurnell
Gee you see horses on the beach quite often
Are there any designations for the beach's West of the ramp

Short answer. NO!!!
You live in a city Jeff.
I do think though that anyone who kites there needs to be aware of all the numerous dangers there.
And some of the lack of awareness I seen there recently is amazing

I think it always has been an off-leash area, even when it was signposted to say you must use a leash. I know I have been going out there for years with the dog.

I was/am more worried that they are going to 'fix' the grassed area by turning that into more tarmac.

In reality, on a windy day, its not much fun taking your dog for a walk along there except in the morning and the late afternoon, so I am not sure you are going to notice any difference at Kurnell at all.

It seems to be a bit of an issue at the moment in these nor-westerly winds. The last 2 weekends have seen a strong concentration of kiters in this groyne since the Cat Clup carpark is closed. Lots of dogs on the beach and in the water. There is fuel for confrontation so we all need to be respectful of each others needs.

The area between the two groynes just east of the ramp have been off leash for a number of years. Can get a bit hectic during the day so early am is best at least for dog walking. Can't understand why everyone wants to kite in the one space (especially the tricksters who insist on jumping close to shore) - there is plenty of water to spread out a bit.

It's ok Jeff. We'll just ban IanR from Kurnell.

Why wouldnt they think you belong on that beach? Is it not free for all beach goers?

Don't leave your kite bag on the beach or it will get peed on ;)
