Hi Craig
Gerroa may look like a great place to kite, but it can be deceiving. The wind is very gusty and offshore there and if you loose sight of your board it aint comin in for a long way down the beach. If you do kite there better to kite before 3 or 4 ,wind gets very gusty in the late arvo .Ive seen heaps of first time kiters there launch on the beach and within 10 secs there kites have fallen out of the sky.Once launched get out on the water as quick as possible 30 yards out wind is much cleaner, and same as landing get the kite down as quick as possible.Waves are really nice to ride being crossoff. And please respect the windsurfers there, they were there way before us.A safer option is Berry beach which is about 4 k's down the beach, wind is crosson there but waves arent as clean..See kiters there regularly. All this applies to northeasters, south to southeast wind is onshore there but still ok for kiting.Have fun.

HI guys - thanks for the pointers. I drove down to Berry as suggested but unfortunately it was deserted and being on my own didnt want to be the only one on the water - I drove back to Gerroa where there were a few guys setting up (nice friendly crowd but cant remember any names)
Had a good few hours on a E-NE in Gerroa - agree very gusty but was manageable with watching what the water ahead was doing and going a bit downwind of the town area.
All in a good spot - nice little wave rides with some flat water behind it - had a good time and will be back!
