Hi, I just bought a 6.1 surfboard for both surfing and kitesurfing. The thing is I still think it s better to put straps on it (even though it allows less freedom when surfing the wave..)
Can you please give me some advises on how to fix the straps on the board?
Will it be possible to use it as a regular surfboard afterwards?
Thanks for your advices!

I've used these before with good success. You can get them in nylon.
Most hardware stores carry them.

1. Drill a hole in the deck
2. Fill the hole with polyester resin
3. Screw in the plug, make sure resin doesn't get in the thread. Puting wax in the thread will help keep out the resin. (if the plug is too long cut off the pointy bottom bit)
4. Once the resin sets you can screw in your stainless steel footstrap screws. Get some with a thick thread.

It should sit flush with the deck of the board. If it doesn't just sand it flush.

Enjoy!

Thank you mate!
Do you have any advice concerning the position of the straps on the board?

i wouldnt use those things above. The chance of them ripping out and doing great damage is very high.. Where abouts are you. If your in the sydney area come to Balmoral Boards in Narrabeen

We can drill out the surfboard. place in inserts and re-glass the board. This provides the board with extra strength due to the excess pressure that is placed on it during kiting. And you can take the straps on or off easily

That souds better, that way I can still use my board as a regular surfboard. I called kitepower who advised me to do that but they don't have the tools...

Should I buy the straps and the inserts from them before coming to your shop in Narrabeen or do you have everything there?
Have you done this before and had some feedback or should I keep asking the perfect position for the straps?
Do you have any idea of the price?

I hope I can come to you shop this week end!

Hey mate
i posted that one by Harros which is my mates account

Yer we have all the tools and stuff at the shop. I did it to my board and came out looking amazing. If you come in we can do the inserts for you and hook you up with some straps. Your board will look awesome, be stronger, and more versatile.

Yer we have done if before and have everything including inserta and straps. And we can arange a stance for you. We have a Normal stance that we can set up for you.

Cheers Al

Hey mate I just converted my surfboard as well, and still using it surfing and kiting, it takes few days and bit of ya time but good project,
You will need to buy -some resin, some glass cloth, some flow coat, and if you can get hold of some carbon fibre cloth, and some inserts
Don’t go to commercial surf shops look up phone book and go straight to supplier no **** all the stuff is 80% cheaper and in bulk,
I went and bought four wind surf insert rails (at any wind surf shop) bout five holes in each rail rails are 4 inch long by half inch wide and 1 inch deep, route out the locations of the rails (I measured 1 inch out from stringer and used where my wax was most imprinted as to the location of my foot when surfing, the 4 rails with there hole locations give a load of adjustment, mix up some resin with some fine chopped glass in it and set the insert rails put some wax in the screw holes in the insert rails so you don’t fill them with resin ,(make a template location of the holes in the insert rails once set cause you need to have there locations once you glass over them , once the insert rails were set I cut the glass cloth bout 12inch by 12inch I used two layers carbon fibre and two glass just to make sure my foot wont go thru the board , it adds a little weight but its worth it , layed up my glass let it set , sanded away all the ****ty bits on the glass and around the edges , you don’t have to get all the imperfections out cause the flow coat fills all the inperfections , applied the flow coat it sets rock hard and is just like a light weight super thin putty and you wet and dry it smooth then apply another super fine coat just to get it perfect ,(one of those little mouse sanders from bunnings is perfect for this , put my template back on the board and located the holes went to hard where got some 1/4 inch self tapers inch long as not to go thru the insert and out other side of board and attached my foot strap , since riding it I have found that in waves my foot location is perfect where my strap is but when iam just getting up and riding to get out back your centre of gravity need to be way forward to get planing so I got a gorilla grip deck grip and put it in front of my strap now you go best both worlds and once your moving just slip back into front foot strap , I have found no need for a rear strap , hope this help and makes cense if it doesn’t mail me back and I can try and explain better on a phone call , great garage project I spent hundred bucks and bout 8 hours , dont use any shallow single inserts these rails are set deep will never come out and have bout twenty different adjustments ,
cheers
