I've just moved from Cape Town where the kite sizes I used were 7/9/11 Switchblades. (with 7/9 being used 85% of the time).

I weigh 76kg and am about to buy a new quiver. I gathered the wind is lighter in Sydney - would a 7 / 10 / 12 quiver work for Sydney area?

What is the summer wind like, what is the typical wind speed, how many times will I use a 7?

cheers

I weigh about the same as you and used to run 12m as my biggest kite when i lived in Sydney. If your riding a TT with your switchblades then if you can I would recommend a bigger light wind kite too if you have the cash for the days that the wind doesn't quite blow as predicted to limit the disappointment of sitting in traffic, finding a car park and then not having enough wind.

NE summer seabreeze is typically 15-low/mid 20s, occasionally over 25. Mostly 9m / 12m weather in summer. Personally at 75kg i would go 9m instead of 10m if you also get a 12m.

You will get the most use of your 7m in winter south westerlies and westerlies and the occasional big southerly moving up the coast. Although it may not get used too often they are definitely worth happening so you're not left sitting on the beach on the strong wind days.

Agree with CJ...I'm 80kgs, I run a 8 RPM, 11 Neo, and 15 Chrono. Mostly use the 11, and days I use the 8 a 7 could probably work...
7/10/12 would also work if you already have them, but I would space them out a bit further if you are set on a 3 kite quiver. 7/10/13+
we can get forecasts quite often of 20+ knots that only come in as 15knts- with lulls of 10knts on those days you can have a sluggish session on a 12m.

Low end kite is just to make sure you always get the boarder line days too so you could go without one if you surf or do other things instead.

Thanks for the advice.I went for 7 / 10 / 12 Duotone Rebels, a Twintip and a hydrofoil board.

I figured a 12 on a hydrofoil will do well in lighter winds whereas a 7m in moderate winds on the hydrofoil will be a better choice than the 8m.

Nice one, which hydrofoil did you go with? I'm hoping to get out today on my 11m with the Slingshot hover glide NF2 foil, it's looking good with today's 10-13knot SSE

I bought a second hand Cabrinha Hirise Lift foilkit together with Duotone Hybrid foil board. Hopefully it all works out.
