I'm new to Sydney and looking for the best way to catch rides to the windy spots. Is this the best place to post? Is there a Facebook group that you guys use?

On that note, I live in Cronulla and want to kite this afternoon, anyone headed from nearby here, to wind?

Try the Facebook group S.U.C.K.
Read some of the other posts about kiting during the winter - our winds then have a westerly in it meaning most kiting spots are offshore. Kurnell is good for NW which is not too far from Cronulla. I think there is a bus.

You could also try going north. Search also for NSWKBA locations.

Good luck.

Locations around Botany Bay .....

Wanda - Only ever kited here in a NE breeze, a little bit gusty
Kernel - NW to NE, a good learners spot, very choppy, helpful locals
Sandringham - Only ever kited here in a SE breeze, very smooth
Dolls Point - Only ever kited here in a NE breeze, very choppy, helpful locals
Brighton CP3/CP1 - Only ever kited here in a NE to E breezes (SE should work)

Also, Wanda - SE is most common wind for kiting. NE has wind shadows in close
Kurnell - rock groynes, crowded, sharp stuff on narrow beach and in shallows. Bull sharks in Quibray Bay
Sandringham - S and SE.
Towra - only for the experienced. NE only.
Dolls - tidal. Pick opposing wind to tide otherwise don't bother. The tide will take your board, never to be seen. SW - NE
Brighton CP3/CP1 - crowded, newbees and not much knowledge of the road rules. NE - SE OK

Dolls, take your board? How do I report this post for swearing?

Kit33r is correct though, I did see one guy at Dolls last weekend in the SWer which i didn't expect, kiting away happily while all us chums got worked on the rocks at Sandringham. Actually it was just one chum . Its a bad time of the year to kite however we are lucky enough to have a winter season as terrible as it is. PM me and i'll send you my number, I'll come and get you and we can go for a ride if i'm around. I have spent most of the winter at the cable park FYI.

Dolls in a SW'er at low tide with a run in tide is smooth, no chop. Just stay away from the groyne where there is a wind shadow. Kited here for 14 years.

You would want it to be pretty well perfect to ride I would imagine. I am all about Dolls in summer, but winter...

Autumn SW'ers are fabulous at Dolls. Admittedly, they can be gusty but uncrowded and no one on the beach. I do love summer at Dolls but only mid week.

Heaps of winter kiting on Tuggerah Lake or Lake Macquarie...... South, sou'wester, West, nor'west, North.

I am averaging two days a week at the moment.
