Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone can recommend me an instructor that is available weekends.
The only time I am available Saturday 7:00 - 14:00 and Sunday 7:00 - 19:00. I have my own gear. Preferably someone that knows Slingshots inside-out.
Please PM me.

I did go to the local kiteshop, but they only teach weekdays and that is impossible for me.

Cheers,
MIke

No one will teach you on the northern beaches!! the only place around here is the Botany bay area ,they wont teach you in the surf only on flat water .

The guys from the local kiteshop told me they will take me to the Entrance and teach me, but weekdays only and I have to work then. Such an awesome sport, but so hard to practice it and depending on a million on factors.

winter is not a good time to learn, the wind is inconsistent, and when it is on is not suitable for learning. Your best bet is to wait until october when the seabreezes start up, get some lessons at botany bay( great for learning) and have a whole summer to get your skills up. The main thing when learning (if you want to progress quickly) is regular time on the water in the right conditions(steady wind). If you start kiting in winter you have a high chance of hurting yourself in gusty winds, and being out of action for the real kite season, also your progression will be much slower and frustrating in winter.

Sad but true.

It's pretty bad. But the smart thing is to wait.

Thanks

No kitesurfing to october!! I dont know about you but if the wind is up im out there. been kite surfing for all most a year now, mostly in the surf now, if its a bit rough for me i tend to connect my leash to the flagging ring. If you play it safe and know you limits you should be ok . But you never no what the wind is going to do ?

I am doing the same thing with the leash.

The reason why I am a bit scared is because I already had an accident with the snowboard and broke my ankle even though I was super confident that nothing is going to happen to me, as I've done it for more than 10 years. So I am thinking, why should I take any chances?! Even though I am so keen to do it and get that beauty up in the air. :)

I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about a complete beginner wanting lessons, trying to learn in gusty 20-30 knots wind is dangerous when you don't know what your doing. hell a 10 year veteran of the sport died in nz a few weeks back in super gusty conditions.

Bennie, are you talking about this?
A 35-year-old Tahunanui man has died in while kite boarding in strong winds north of Nelson.

The accident happened at about 3.30pm at Wakapuaka on farm land off State Highway 6.

Police said an extreme wind gust of wind lifted the man high off the ground and blew him into some trees.

"He then came into contact with trees and the ground before coming to rest some distance away in farm land," Sergeant Shane Miles said.

Police, fire and ambulance staff attended the scene but the man was dead on arrival, Mr Miles said.

The man's wife - who was present at the time of the accident - is being supported by family and victim support.

What puzzles me (and that is because I am a beginner) is the fact that he didn't release the kite. I remember that everytime I tried to launch a kite and practice with it, I was all the time thinking about pulling the safety release in case I lose control. Let alone these people who had so much experience, don't they know they can just let the kite let go???

Anyway, God rest his soul!

Alternativly try something like this for the weekend
http://www.namastebeachhouse.com/kite.php
Its at a place near taree, I guess about 3.5hrs from sydney, if it gets you up an going sooner it will be worth every cent.

I am sure Stu will do lessons on a weekend
Drive up on a friday arvo or early sat morning and stay at his place, rooms are cheap
The place he does the lessons would be good from se to ne
We do get SE during winter (sometime a bit strong for beginers)
It's not like he will be booked out, so give him a call and just plan the weekend about mid week when the wind looks suitable for a beginer

The sooner you get going the better

Or even better, take a holiday and go to the Cocos
They got instructors there just waiting for you, warm shallow water, cheap beer, you get the picture

Thanks for the referral Ric, Mike called me and I reccommended Dave - Glad he looked after you Mike. I haven't had insurance for the winters in the past but will have from now on.
I had a lot of travellers looking for lessons this winter and also plenty of South Easters we could have taught in (Plenty meaning between 1-2 riding days per week, not bad for winter)
After a couple average summers the predictions are looking positive this season. Cold winter, hot summer - lets hope huey throws a few cyclone swells into the mix as well.
We'll have a cafe open this summer at the house too with a kiteboarders room full of mags, movies and icey cold beverages.
See you in Old Bar
