Hi Guys,

I have been toying with the idea of competing in some local events that may be happening over the summer so I began to look into Becoming a member of the NSWKBA. I thought the membership fee's were pretty steep, but was willing to pay for the opportunity to be eligible to compete and to be covered by the all important public liability insurance.
While reading through the insurance Coc "Certificate of currency" to see how I would be covered, I noticed that the certificate is in-fact no longer current as of the 5th of May this year.

To cut a long story short could anybody tell me if this has been updated so that the policy is current? I would hate to join, accidentally hurt some innocent bystander and get a custard pie in the face because of a lack of insurance coverage.

Cheers heaps.

Hey guys, guilty as charged none of us checks that NSW forum very often! We tend to mostly use Facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/NSWKBA ) to connect with the community and announce events and other things, but as the new President of NSWKBA (now Kiteboarding NSW Inc) I can tell you there's lots of cool stuff coming up.

Being a web developer by trade, one of my first action will indeed be to update the content of that old website of ours and give it a sexy new design ;-)

We're all volunteers with day jobs and spending as much time on the water as we can, so please understand things can progress slowly. I assure you in the recent month there's been a lot going on in the background with Kiteboarding Australia, including a rebranding of all the newly incorporated state associations which we are waiting on before refreshing our website.

In terms of insurance both our website and KA's ( aksa.com.au/ ) are obviously out of date, the insurance policy has been renewed for 2014/2015.

Coming from Europe as a student first I've always found the membership fee to be very steep too, so we'll try our best to make it worth it. NSWKBA just helped organised a snowkiting info night in Sydney yesterday, to support a trip to the mountains organised by the local group S.U.C.K. There will be a Season Opener BBQ and Social Comp in October, the racing crew will be announcing its NSW Race Series schedule soon, and we're hoping to set up some more events and comp for the freestylers and wave riders too

If you're not in Sydney and would like to organise events in your local area we'll be more than happy to support you financially and when dealing with councils, getting media attention, etc... One of our prominent committee member Steve recently moved to Lennox Head, but I'm very aware that we are too much Sydney-centred, so hopefully we can get more stuff happening up north and south.

Ask not what NSWKBA can do for you, but what you can do for the kiters of NSW

Cheers,
Antoine

Also over in WA the creation of Perth Kite Racing club has shaken things up a bit, you can find some very interesting information about KA in their response: aksa.com.au/resources/Documents/140820-PKRC%20Response%20Final.pdf (which they should get the intern to put on the website)

Update: the Kiteboarding Australia insurance summary for 2014/2015 is available here http://aksa.com.au/Resources/Documents/Insurance/1415_Kiteboarding%20Australia_Summary%20of%20Cover.pdf , I'll update the NSWKBA website to point to that one instead of the old one.
