This is a new style of social comp, with the emphasis on mates competing amongst themselves to set the best time through a downwind zig zag course, possibly with a bit of swell thrown in for a bit of variety.

The course consists of a beach start, rounding three marker buoys, then finishing on the beach. A short walk up the beach and have another go.

Everyone should have be able to be able to have a laps of the circuit. We will keep a running tally of how is setting the best time so you can check your speed against your mates.

We have organised a lifeguard on jet ski to provide safety cover so all levels of kitesurfers are welcome, even if you are only at the body dragging stage!

Spot prizes are being donated by several Sydney kite shops, and NSWKBA will provide a free BBQ for competitors, friends and family.

Due to Council Insurance Requirements, everyone taking part in the comp needs to be a NSWKBA member, but you will be able to join or renew on the day.

In the case of no wind we'll have the beach volleyball net set up, and also run some Mal paddling team races for the prizes.

So see you there, 1:30pm for registration and the skippers meeting, at South Narrabeen beach opposite the Sands Hotel. For more info email [email protected] e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

We now have confirmed prizes in the form of gift vouchers from the following kite shops:

Kitepower
Balmoral Boards
Windsurf n Snow

Also Windsurf n Snow are going to bring along their Stand up Paddling surf boards for demos if the wind is light and the surf small.

If the wind is light the beach volleyball net will be in up!

After we had been preparing for a beach volleyball tournament the wind actually appeared on Sunday for the event, as did about 50 kiters. It was a beautiful day at the beach enjoyed by all, really good atmosphere and lots of new faces.

We had over 35 contestants chomping at the bit to attack the slalom course when the wind backed off and turned more onshore. This required a change to the course to a down the surf break around one buoy and back into the beach type arrangement.

Thanks to everyone who came along, and who volunteered their time to help run the event and the BBQ. Also thanks to the shops for donating the prizes (about half the field went home with a prize, ranging from $100 vouchers to t-shirts).

The results are a bit biased towards the dirty southerns:

Fastest Overall - Rich Stenning - 1:12 (He is a freak so gets his own category)
Fastest Woman - Marine Sudre - 1:33
Fastest Man - Steve McCormack - 1:26
Slowest Overall - Thomas "I'm from Norway" - ????
Most improved time - Robin Barnes
Best Jump - Jon Turner
Best dismount - Col Packer - somersault onto sand with butt

THe northern beaches crew were very impressed with the effort and committment of the southerners crossing the bridge for the day, and we are looking forward to heading South to the cesspool you call home for the return event.

Cheers
