I saw someone out at Narrabeen lakes yesterday in the NE.. I was trying to work out where they launched from as it would be a convent spot for me instead of driving to Palm Beach..

In a NE would they have launched at middle creek reserve with the windsurfers or at Jamison Park??

Why wouldn't you just go to Narrabeen Beach or Boat Harbour?

I was looking for somewhere flat where I can ride my raceboard.. Without having to go to Botany Bay.. otherwise I would ride my other boards at the beach..

Narrabeen lake is not a great spot to kite only a few locals including myself go there it's more suited for a straight west wind but then it's gusty , lots of trees , launching is not easy in between trees , or you have to drift launch . If you get the landing wrong your in the trees .
You would be better of at narrabeen beach for a north east wind it will save you 30min in the car as we'll . If your still keen for the lake pm me your number and I can give you the run down . And the lake is very shallow as we'll you would end up snapping out your fins on a race board .

Kited there 3 times, once on a due east wind and on a nw wind needs to be about 20 knots.
This was about 8 years ago. And have not been there since
I grew up in the area, so know the lake very well.
Its just not worth it.Can be very gusty.
Go for a surf instead.

Forgot to mention that I saw a guy get dragged over a car and down the car park back in 2002-3.
Had gravel rash from head to toe.
Was windsurfing at the time on the northern end of the lake where the scouts are now located.
Pretty sure there is photos of kites in trees in the windsurfing section of this very spot.
Am sure the pole dancers would have had a good laugh at the tea bagger.

Appreciate the advice but I'm still keen to have a go... I was looking at it the other day and while there's trees etc everywhere it looked fine to do a drift launch fairly safely.. I was thinking of dusting off my Finless Alaia board as it goes in only a few cm of water and loves weed.. :)

I'm waiting for the right day to give it a shot.. Maybe start the new kiting year with it..

Ok, on a NE I would launch on the sand spit, walk through the bush from Jameson park.
Very shallow twin tip only.
the wind has to be just right or your kite will fall out of the sky.
Better in ENE
To much north and it won't work.
Have kited on the east side of the sand spit.
Over the last few years have only seen a few that go on a WSW And launch on the northern side.

In saying all of this ,in my own experience it's not worth the effort. That's the very reason you don't see any locals outt there.
