Hi Guys,

I am just new in Narrabeen. I've done kiteboarding for 4 years in Montpellier (South of France) and I would really like to meet people here, set up kite meetings and move with the wind together (as I could do in Montpellier).
I got a bandit 7.5 and I am looking for a 11 for my quiver.
I sail in different wind conditions, currently try to pass (without any success) hp and another unhooked tricks ...

I am ready to offer beers, smiles and friendliness for all ! Narrabeen seems to be a very nice place for kiteboarding !!! But I would like to avoid some dangerous stuffs here : is there a landing area, ground swell, forbidden areas, blueys ... ?

I am a beginner/intermediate in surfing and I would really appreciate to join experienced people for surfing sessions as well.
That is the australian way of life.

Thanks for your reply.

Christophe

G'day Chrisophe, Welcome to Aus. Pitty you came in winter where the wind is not so great. You will be lucky to get a kite in once a week.

A good place to start meeting people is through kitesurfing.com.au/

The site is run by a top bloke called Rob, who pretty much connects everyone on the northern beaches and also gives great updates on the weather conditions.

The locals on the northern Beaches are all very friendly bunch, the only things to watch out for are; make sure you stay well away from other beach users and becarefull kiting in Longreef lagoon, its full of junk that will cut you or your kite up.

Beaches
Narrabeen N, NE
Longreef S,SE

Hope to catch you out on the water mate.
Alex

Rather focus on your surfing, it will be much less frustrating!

I used to live in sydney, and still work sometimes in Mona Vale. If I moved back there (and had to work 9-5) I would sell all my kites and take up another sport.

Summer are NE/S/SE winds. NE will tease you with 10kts while its 15-20kts further north/south of sydney. S/SE winds are nice but have been very infrequent this year.

Winter brings W/NW/SW winds all of which you cant kite. If it is onshore then its raining.

Sorry but its the truth. Save your money and go up to north queensland or WA over summer! Or be prepared to drop everything and drive alot if you intend to get any decent kiting around the northern beaches. good luck!

Hey Andrew,

Your answer is worrying me ... there are some kitesurfing associations here, that means there is wind (doesn't it ?) !... It has been more than 1 month I live in Narrabeen and I could kite only 1 time with a SW wind in Longy. I met very nice people who love kiteoarding and take benefit of any session.
I have no car yet but I hope I will catch up the wind more frequently with a car.

Guys, will you be ready for a carpool to central cost or anywhere else for kiting with a westerly wind ?

Thx

Tof

Dont worry about what the guy above said.. i live out there in summer pretty much and am out when ever i can.
I have a rebel but will be going to a rev soon
im keen for summer to come and the winds to come.. in summer we usually get 4 great days a week of riding with hot water weather and nice waves. And when it blows southerly its great becuase its smooth and we have longy.

If its being gay and wont turn on head down to botnay bay or up north to tuggerah lake. Im doing that a fair bit and i just got my p's. woot..

Im keen for a ride sometime and i could show you around. Also drop by Balmoral Boards. i work there and we are always welcoming new faces..

Cheers Al

Hi Rebel,

If you work at Balmoral Boards, I was there 3 days ago and ask for a pump and a bandit 11m. Perhaps you were on the guys there ! (Actually, I live at 200 m further on Pittwater Road)

I love waves but I am in my unhooked period and I look for flat or choppy waters !

In south of France, a lot of shops organize sessions between buddies all around the coast regarding on wind directions. If it is the same here, I am ready for any trip which can allow me to kite frequently !

Hope I will have a car soon and bring buddies with me ! What are the best spot for westerlies ?

See ya soon mate.

G'day To34, best places to go in a westerlie is picnic point at the entrance and kurnell in botany bay.

The wind is showing NE tomorrow (20th) so there should be a heap of kiters at narrabeen beach. Im on a Blue ozone instince so if you see me come say hi.

hey, there is a very good comunity on the northern beaches
think its because lack of wind and therefore more beer

(more beer more beer more beer )

sign in to robs newsletter + if there is wind (harrumph) the main spot to go is long reef
otherwise palm beach
