So I want to get into kite surfing.
Which kite should I get. I'm located in Sydney so wind is pretty low.

I can get the:
2012 NORTH REBEL 12m or 2013Slingshot Rally 12m for around the same price second hand.
Which one should I choose?

Hey mate, I had a rebel, and they're great kites (although I currently prefer the DICE). I don't have any comment on the SS as I've not tried it.

What kind of kiting are you expecting to do? Waves on the Ocean, or flat water stuff? If it's wave riding with a directional (surfboard) board, I'd suggest the 4-line Slingshot would drift better, an important quality when you catch a wave and you travel faster than the kite.

If you're new new, it probably doesn't make the world of difference.

The rally is a great kite. Easy and simple to use. Good relaunch and behaves well. I learnt on a rally. The rebel is also a good kite. Owned one for a short amount of time before the glue on the bladder failed. One thing about north is build quality. From my experince SS are built much stronger and are ''bomb proof. Another thing to factor is that the rebel is a five line kite....Pain in the arse setting up on the beach if you ask me.

IMO - the next one you come across
But hey (seriously) - they are both stable, docile SLE delta(ish) styled kites well suited to beginners.
Any delta(ish) SLE will do. Every brand does one and they are all a joy to fly for all kiters & definitely the ones beginners should start with.
Save the more demanding, less user friendly styles (high end hybrids & 'C' kites etc) till you are sure they are offering the benefits your advanced skills require. Most kiters out there - regardless of skill level or experience still chose the 'user friendly' (delta-ish) models as their go-to kite.

I think Im going to enjoy the forums once Im no longer a dreaded 'shop owner' who has to keep his mouth shut.
