Hi all,
Trying to progress but find I'm just mowing the lawn, fun enough but if I wanted to do that I would've stayed windsurfing!
Most sports we have drills for technique etc to take you back to basics or work on essential skills for the next level.
What 5 skills/exercises would you recommend to fit into a 15 minute warm-up skills session to keep fundamentals in check?
Mostly for some basic freestyle (bankrolls etc) controlled jumping, downwinders and some surfing down the track.
I say intermediate loosely but starting to ride toeside (sliding) but haven't nailed upwind toeside that well.
Carve turns could improve (not downlooping), landing half the jumps, no problems getting back up wind or relaunch but really want to work on technique for 15 min when I go out or after a few warmup runs.
Looking forward to the suggestions.

Ok... this is what I did to get out of mowing the lawn syndrome.

. learn toe side and heel side riding, in both directions. Get to know your waist! If you're into latin dancing, believe me this is easy. Just turn your hip forward and learn to switch your back foot to front and back again. Once you have that patted down, do this next

. do a quick upwind tack and pull the bar in (sheet in) and let yourself jump a little. This is what I did to learn the dreaded load-n-pop. Watch Dimitiry's videos on the other posts. PrActice load and pop. Just sheet in even and jump if you can, but load n pop is crucial for better jumps

. the above over and over for an entire season and watch yourself wanting to do other moves.

. then learn to do a back roll and a front roll

. soon you'll be doing front and back roll transitions and watch the faces of the people on the beach. click click click goes those phone cameras!

good luck

Thanks Dylan,
Good advice, want to get toeside dialed & I think downwind sessions will help this a lot. This is really the first dedicated season after putting windsurfer away so happy to progress to good carve turns and decent pop & landings. Good to concentrate on one or two things each session but still have a bit of fun.
cheers.

Aggressive upwind - Focus on going upwind as much as possible. Probably the single most used skill, but specifically training in this on startup allows you to first see what type of upwind is possible in the conditions as well as teaching how to gauge speed and kite power delivery.
Speed run - Focus on going as fast a possible. This gets you used to travelling much faster across the water and increases your overall speed. Specifically teaches edge control and kite power delivery limits.
Figure 8's - Find a nice little spot to head upwind into a carving turn downwind followed by enough upwind to do another carving turn downwind to get back to the start. Focus on making them tighter and tighter without drifting downwind. Teaches kite power delivery across the across the wind window and transition timing.

After that it's probably going to be specific to what your learning goal for the session is. Remember to take a break through the session, reflect on what you're learning (possibly asking others) , and go out and hit it again.
