Can anyone offer any constructive advice / opinions on the above kite.

My situation is:
I have a 2007 DNA & a 138 switch.
Weight 86kgish
Just about standing at the end of last season - still having to do the walk of shame
Need about a 18+ knot wind to get me up.
Kites in Perth

I have been reading magazines, forums, websites etc but have found out the more you read the more kites you want and the picture does not get any clearer.
I want a kite that I can use in the lighter winds (thats lighter winds relative to my current ability - se above) and that is "user friendly" and what I can progress on.
(I can only afford one kite)

I have looked at info on Naish, Core, best etc and it gets more cmplicated the more you read. I know people say you should try before you buy but 1. I do not have the skills / confidence to trial others (wouldn't want to trash one whilst trying) and 2. Would I know a dog of a kite if I flew one?.

So I am 95% decided upon the Lithium unless anyone can offer any objective reasons not to purchase. (If you do offer reasons I would be interested in what you would recommend)

Sorry its a long rambling post but your thoughts would be appreciated.

lithium is the 2010 DNA just not in red, so more of what you have already.

if you are almost up on a board with a little coaching, and practise you will be upwind in no time and able to demo gear.

sorry dude dont know who told you that but its not true.

The Lithium is not the 2010 DNA it is a whole different kite.
The DNA is still available in 2010 but it is special order only (usually for schools)

Keaw Yed its good timing if you are thinking of buying a 2010 Lithium as we have just dropped the prices of all of the 2010 Airush kites at Airborne because the 2011 will be here soon

+1 to Damo, the Lithium is definately not a DNA. EDIT: I am gonna have to clarify that. The lithium shares no similarity to current model DNA's. It is a differnt kite. however I believe new DNA's will be based on the Lithium but modified for school use.

However, Keaw you did not mention what size your DNA is?

Your problem seems to be one of size rather than kite? If you have a 10m DNA, I don't think a 10m lithium will get you going any earlier, and I suspect you will see no usable difference between the 2 at your current level.

I would suggest that you either:

1) stick with your DNA - which is an exceptional kite for a beginner - until you are blasting around confidently, and then go and see Damo (or anyone else) for a suitable upgrade.

2) decide that you really do need a larger kite to get going earlier (11 or 12m), and look at those options. A 12m lithium would suit well, as would a plethora of other kites.

OOpps I have a 9m DNA.

Re lithium v DNA believe they are very different beasts from what I have read so I avoided that curve ball.

Thanks for the advice Paradox I may wait and see how I cope at the start of the season and take it from there.

Hi Guys,

In speaking to the designers of the DNA and Lithium, there is not that much difference in the canopy.

Lithium uses slightly different bridle to alter the span and depower. DNA has no one pump

DNA bar is totally different to the Lithium which comes with the SMART bar.

DNA is basically a school/commercial version of the Lithium. Both kites are good to learn on. Mind the power though, 2010 DNA and Lithium is very powerful so a size smaller than average is worth investigating.

Agree. I tried a friends 13m lithium LW a week ago. Wow - that thing pulls like a truck. I doubt I could handle it much over 18kts and I push 100kg wet. I was fully blasting at around 14-15kts.

Thanks for the info guys,

It looks like I will try to wait a while so I can get to the stage where I can demo a couple of kites. (I was hoping to buy a 2010 kite so I could keep the spending down now was a good time to buy due to the 2011 kites coming out, but more importantly I have received permission from the wife I could buy a new kite.

PREMIUM PERFORMANCE IN A SCHOOL PACKAGE
PRODUCT OVERVIEW//

As one of the most popular kites in use at schools around the world, the DNA has gained a large following due to its relaunch, depower and safety characteristics. New for this year, the DNA is a school-only version of the new model Lithium.
By removing many of the non-essential retail details from the kite, we are able to offer a performance kite to schools at a very attractive price. With school-inspired features and construction details, the 2010 DNA is a new concept in the product range that accommodates the needs of schools, while providing a retail option of the kite for the dealers that has the same characteristics of the DNA, but with all the retail features that the kite buyer wants. Due to the high level of use and harsh conditions that beginners put school kites through, the DNA is the logical choice for any instructor or school.
