I have just bought a 4 meter 2007 airush dna for my son he is 10 and only weighs 30 kgs . After a lot of reserch it looked like the one too buy . Got an email later saying that this kite was a mongrel in lite winds. Has anyone else delt with the dna and can tell me that he was wrong and just trying too sell me his brand . I hope it will be alright . Please any help too ease dads mine THANKS

Year i did but when i went too buy it he had sold it ... So this is what came availble at the time . How ever after geting the dna he did find another ozone but my moneys have got to build again so i can get it .

Not sure about the 4m but I have flown the 2007 9m as well and have nothing but praise for it as a stable, safe kite to learn on, and was used extensively by kite schools around the world - as the model still is. I certainly have not heard of any issues in light wind that all other kites don't also have (ie it is the wind strength not the kite)

Unless the 4 has some quirk that is different to the rest, and with due regard for the fact it is a 3+ year old shape, it should be fine in anything over around 11kts and would be an ideal kite for a youngster. If you are trying to fly it in lighter winds forget it. Few kites are easily relaunched in lighter winds.

I'm glad you like the DNA 4m. I still stand by my advice and was not just trying to sell you an Ozone. I also have a 4m DNA which I'd like to sell.

We used both 5m Light II and 4m DNA in the school and when compared together, we wouldn't choose the DNA.

As I suggested to you, the stopper ball on the DNA makes it a lot better to use as thew depower line is way too long and will allow the kite to flop onto it's leading edge into the wind on the water.

It's irrelevant now in any case, glad it is working for you. Have fun.

Went out today in 23kn bryce had too stop flying it too much grunt so i took over and grabed my board . I didnt think it would be so much fun with me being 60 kgs . too be true i had a blast on it . i didnt think it would do much and i could not belive how fast it was , it was going off its head . Do all small kites fly this fast or just the really small ones .

hey s2a, been thru the same thing... got my young fella (was about 25kg) a 4M dna, cos it was the smallest kite i could find. in light winds, (typically 12-16 knts) it was an absolute prick of a thing. i'm sure it would be better in the 30 knots it was designed for??? however... got him onto a 7M rebel and he has progressed rapidly... good luck with it. for me it has proven to be one of lifes little high's, watchin your son chargin upwind grinning like a maniac!

the 7 is perfect for him up here. he's around 30kg now (11yo) and spent heaps of time on the beach with trainer kites and practising with his 4 and 7.
(like 6 months due to our wet season stingers), so his kite control is pretty good. in up to about 14-15 knots he is ok, but i limit the times he kites to suitable conditions. (strength, direction, tide etc...) he also uses my 9M new in the really light stuff, and can get going in about 9 knots or so... while we are all on the beach
cant overstate how much he improved once we got him a kite that would stay in the sky. made it a lot more enjoyable for him too... (and me). he is basically independant now, and we are having a ball. I also relied on Darren's advice, and it was spot on! hope it all comes together for you both
