Hi all,

Me and the missus are keen to get some gear and get out in the near future but would like some advise on kites and boards.

We've done some lessons with Ben at WA Surf and so far it's been great, Ben mentioned that they have some sales on at the moment but as kites are in the $1500 range for last years model, still a bit out of our budget if we're going to get 2.

Can you recommend kite sizes and board sizes for couple of beginners. We don't mind traveling to spots to kitesurf but as we live 5 mins from Pinaroo point thats were I guess we will do most of our kiting.

I'm around 95kg so I'm thinking something like a 11m and 9m for the missus. What make and models would people recommend. Like wise on board sizes what should we be looking at?

Cheers all

You probably have a good idea of the kite and board size you should use after having a few lessons. As well as talking to your local kite shop also talk to the guys at the beach. You may get one of two not too helpful, but there are plenty that are, we were all beginners once. I understand not wanting to outlay too much initially, particularly as there are two of you. I often find that kiters upgrade once they're confident and have sorted out the basics, so a good used kite is suitable. There are plenty out there, many will suit your needs. There are lots of forums and reviews of kites, I'd suggest starting there first. The Cabrinha XBow is a good start, Naish Park or Helix, Flexifoil Atom, SLingshot Rev etc.
Getting local advice is probably the key though.
Boards are probably a bit easier when beginning, with size being the key. At 95kg you can start between 138 - 144cm IMO.

Sorry, meant Cabrinha Switchblade, not XBow.

If you live near Pinnas go and see Darren at AKS, he has some great deals going on last years stock/trade ins, etc. Bonus is he will look after you if something goes wrong with your gear and he is very close by to where you live.

Hey djt77,

Was it you in the shop this morning? If not, drop by, we have a number of kites and boards which would sort you out and not bust the bank. Superceded, ex-demo and lots of second hand in sizes from 12m to 6m and from $450 to $1400.

Our school is at Pinnaroo from 1/10 onwards and our crew are on the beach every day until sundown. We always keep an eye on everything that is going on and either our peeps or the local Pinnacrew will gladly rescue you if you need assistance.

Cheers and welcome to the Pinnacrew!
