I've just got my gear, I've had two lessons and can get up on the board for about 50m. Need much practice still and haven't gone out on my own yet. So im keen to try find some other people so we can help each other out, at least so have more confidence to hit the water.

Cheers,
Dan

Likely to hit up Shearwater park on the Goldcoast this saturday, from what I hear it is a good place to learn. Meeting another fella there also who has been there before but still new to it. If ya keen to meet down there drop us a line. as long as the weather is ok, ill be pulling my new kite out of its bag for the first time.

Hi Danial

I'm a recent newb myself, although finally after about 7 or 8 solo sessions since my lessons I have finally reached the milestone of staying upwind and no longer doing the walk of shame Happy days!!!!
Mate, I have been out at Shearwater a number of times, and IMO if your from Brisbane........Sandgate or Brighton is a way better option while learning. The stretch of beach at Shear isnt really that long, and I found that while learning the end (near the rock walls / canal entrances) sneak up quite quickly if you have a few spills. Ofcourse it depends a lot on wind / tide strength and direction just how quickly, (and how many stacks ) but I found I was doing more walking up the beach than time spent in the water with kite and board.
Sandgate / Brighton has plenty of room and you dont have to worry so much about an absolute "must exit" point, before it all goes pear shaped.
Ofcourse, as a GC location its probably your best option, but if your in Brissy, a better option I believe is Sandgate / Brighton.
The main thing is just get out there and practice, have fun and stay safe......doesnt really matter where, as long as you get out there and put some time in on board and kite.
All those walks hauling my kite up the beach against the wind direction certainly made me very determined to get riding upwind dialled ASAP
Eitherway, its all part of the learning experience.

Enjoy!

I'm up for somewhere on the Sunny coast this weekend. Seems as though the wind will be better up there this weekend, based on the really early forecasts. Sandgate seems to not get enough wind when its blowing from the south-east.

Another newby here. Just thought I'd say g'day. I'm at pretty much the same stage. I've had 2 lessons, can stand up for a very short time and just bought my gear (North Fuse 9m and North X-Ride 133cm board). I haven't taken my new gear out yet. Hopefully this week.

Hey guys/girls...

Also fairly new to kiting in the Brisbane area. Started about a month ago. I'm out on my Core XR 11m at Thompson's beach most times.

Thompson's beach is great for beginners if the wind is onshore... if you don't mind the muddy water.

I'm looking to go to Brighton / Sandgate soon (if the wind comes back.) I would love to expand my list of destinations to some in the Gold Coast and some in the Sunshine coast area, though I'd need someone who knew the beaches better than me to give me advice as to which areas were beginner friendly. My wife goes to the Gold coast for work sometimes, so it would be cool to book into a hotel and make a weekend of it. Just need to know where I can kite.

In terms of "skill" level, if you can call it that... I'm going upwind if I'm powered enough and getting the odd slide turn right. (If you hear loud whooping noises from someone under a yellow and white kite its probably because I managed to turn and not fall off)

Hi. I'm also a bit of a noob, but I'm riding upwind now, so no more walks of shame. I'm usually at Shearwater Park when there's a good SE or SSE, but will have a go with a NE (though it can be a bit gusty).

I am lucky enough to be able to knock off work early sometimes, so I try to get out on weekday afternoons. Shearwater can be a nightmare on the weekends (heaps of kiters and polies, not to mention kids, and the occasional dog or fisherman). Still, it sort of is the best place for noobs on the goldie (if you can avoid all of the other flotsom, or if it can avoid you!)...
