I have just started to kite surf and I still epically suck haha. But I have done my lessons and I have just bought my own gear, so need to get out to practice heaps.

I have got my water start down, have good control of the kite, comfortable with re-launching......but havent had much luck actually riding the kite for more than 10m.

Would love to meet some newbies to go out with and practice, I am always ready to go on the weekends. I saw this coming Saturday the wind looks amazing, pretty much all day. :-)

Guys
I'm in the same boat but can go out and back a few hundred meters without falling off but im still a long way from being below average. I live in Kingsley and am keen to go out as much as possible while the season is still here.
Best advice i can give is be prepared to travel to where the water is flat so you can learn control and also consider doing a few hours at the wake park south of the river so you can learn board skills. Most people say its 90% kite skills but if you can only get up for a short period its good to have board skills squared away so you can concentrate on flying.

I haven't been out on the ocean yet, just the river. But keen for the ocean at a spot with some shallow and calm waters. What is mullaloo like, wavy or calm?
Do you have any recommendations Joe? Heard there are a few spots in safety bay that would be good! Cheers for the advice on the board skills as well!

I went to safety bay near penguine island and highly reccomend it if the wind is right.
Melville is good some days but can be a bit gusty or crowded.
Pinaroo was ok one day but to wavy to next and i have not been to Mulaloo on a board yet.

Went to Pinnaroo today after work and wind was about 20 knts. Last time I was out in the same wind at pinnaroo i lost my board and drifted thru the windsurfer area downwind. This time I was a bit worried but a couple of learners were having a go so i went out. I went out and back 4 times approx 300mtrs without dropping my kite or board once. My best session yet so looking forward to the rest of the season.

Yes! Do you mean Shoalwater near Pengos? Or behind the Pond? I wìll be going to Shoalwater with a few other newbies - join us. The wind there is cross on shore (better for newbies), whereas I think the Safety Bay spot is kinda on-shore (?).

Hi all! It is good to see I am not the only newbie out there (but still the utter most one probably). I am actually going to take my last bit of lessons this friday and hopefully get my gear before the weekend. I am familiar with pinnaroo point area but it is usually crowded there when the wind is blowing strong and nicely. I will be more than happy to group up if anyone is keen

If i am still alive and haven't had all the confidence beaten out of me by Sunday, I can be your kite buddy. But what's with the wind forecast? South-easterly? Will that be very gusty? I can't do gusty, especially not during launches

Aw and its South East... Don't know where to go when its blowing that direction. Help?Don't worry I am also limited when its gusty and standing up..... limited would be a complement, so I wouldnt be comfortable going out in anything less that perfect conditions

Dont spend too much time waiting for the perfect conditions
More time on water = faster progression. The more you progress the bigger wind range you'll be comfortable with

Have to disagree with that, lower windrange per kite size can be very frustrating and confidence sapping for a new kiter, you will however refine your rigging skills

Hi One and all,

This is scary! I was thinking about the samw thing this week, Ive had my lessons in the begining of last year, went out a few times since then on the river, but my last experience put my kite in a death spin I managed to get out of it, but havent been back since, which freaked my mind out a bit. I live in Beeliar so my haunt would be Woodies, I go down often to watch the guys and gals strut there stuff!!!

So now I find myself, wanting to get back in it!!! and A few kiting newbies with the same ambition would be the way to go... so... is there anybody who wants to join me too? we play by ear...

I can travel to Pengo's on the weekend.

PS: I'm glad I found your thread

Hey guys, I am a beginner as well and I am getting on the board for about 10m and then stalling. I am lucky to have the opportunity to get out during the week. If anyone is interested in going to Safety Bay on a S or SW wind or Melville on a SW wind during the week, then PM me please. I only have one kite - 10m Catalyst so I am pretty restricted to 17-25 knots (prefer an even 20 ha ha).
