Looks like I will be heading to Bali soon and would like to get Kiteboarding lessons whilst there....
Any one know of a decent school not too far from Kuta?

Go to Sanur mate. There are a few schools on the beach there. Is like 10/20 min from Kuta. Sanur is where the best kitesurfing conditions are for beginners. It is mainly flat shallow water and it gets the most wind. There are also lots of hotels in Sanur.
I would also recommend going diving at the USS liberty while you're in Bali. You can even do an hour dive crash course (just the basics) and do three dives to 12m with Gecko dive in Padang Bai. (all legit instructors)
Enjoy mate! and I would say; Explore and get out of Kuta, there is so much more to it then just trashed aussie bogans.

yo finger, sanur or nusa , cant comment on the schools, the blokes at the school next to the bali high, are nice blokes, and good kiters, but dont know about teaching ability, this spot didnt look the best for learning due to a few boats and rock groynes, windwise i was there for two weeks in high wind season and used my zephyr all the time, the was only two of us out most of the time , be aware of tides as the reef is dry at low, i used to get a taxi to drop me a few hours upwind , and kite eat beer kite eat beer all the way to the spot, good times

^^^^^^ - as long as you go in winter its not that bad? Specially if you are also prepared to do some other things?

If you are looking for wave clinics (as in you can already kite) try the BWS Bali option.
We are taking bookings here at KSS right now.
