will the insurance cover me if i damage someone elses gear? i.e. will AKSA buy some one a new line - set /Bar if i cross lines?

Will the insurance cover me of i damage gov't property eg power lines?

will the insurance cover me if i hit a swimmer while kite surfing?

I think these are important questions that should be addressed by the insurance.

'There is a $2,500 policy excess for property damage and bodily injury claims. The payment of the excess is the responsibility of the defending party and will not be paid by AKSA / KAL unless otherwise agreed.'

Good to know, thanks for digging that out Seb. No KA membership for me this year. I'll find a proper insurance.

Like I said above, check out your Super fund. Many have personal indemnity insurance and other insurance plans for your lifestyle. I found them to be cheaper cause they take out the premiums from the super contributions , so in effect your employer is paying it, not you directly. Free insurance!

Late last year I had just arrived at the beach and was pumping up my kite. Next minute I got taken out from behind from what literally felt like I got hit by a car. Then I was dragged down the beach for about 20 meters. It was another kiter who lost control of his kite on the beach. After we somehow separated, he continued down the beach out of control and took out another 2 kites in the sky.

He hit me directly in the mid/lower spine. I got hurt pretty bad. Luckily I was wearing my harness otherwise I would probably be in a wheelchair now. The harness shielded the impact and protected my spine. The impact was so hard that still caused damage though.

What if you were pumping up your kite and the same thing happened while you weren't wearing your harness and the guy didn't have insurance. Loss of income/medical etc is one thing but what about the fact that you would never be able to Kiteboard again due to someone else's negligence. Not to mention another kiteboarder. How much alone is that worth to a dedicated kiteboarder not kitesurf ever again? Ever.

The guy wasn't a newbie and his excuse was that the person launching his kite let it go in the power zone when he wasn't ready. The point is accidents happen. Get Insurance.

BTW The concerns made regarding the fine print of the insurance provided by AKSA / KA is very valid though.
