Having tried St Kilda a few times, getting too close to other kiters and nearly ending badly, always get blown straight back onto the beach and into other people makes it not fun.

Inverloch apparently has currents and gets busy?
Brighton apparently has reefs?

or are most places busy and I just need to suck it up?

Brighton is an OK spot - its not crowded compared to St Kilda and has a wide beach. The reefs are mostly upwind of the kiting zone. But if you go downwind past the small rock groyne there is no easy landing - you need to stay upwind of that.

Hampton could be your next choice, but there a couple of prominent groynes with a beach in between (downwind) and then a section of rockwall and narrow beach closer to Brighton. Need to watch out for swimmers and keep clear of the no boating zone there too.

hey mate - the Mornington Peninsula is a hidden gem .... great in a nor-wester (Rosebud) or a Southerly (Balnarring), be an ambassador for the sport and the locals will welcome you with smiles and advice.

If you're after a tops lesson give Trent at Peninsula Kiteboarding a call (0413 835 345), tell him Jase from Sydney suggested you call ;)

I'll be in the same boat, moving down to VIC for a few months in April.

I'll be 5 mins away from Altona. Good place for beginners with a bit of space?

Zarb, Altona is great. There's heaps of room but its also packed during summer. Should be ok by the time you get here in April, good luck!

i reckon down bayside area from carom to mordy. big beach and usually a cross on shore/on shore. when i started out i didn't like the idea of going all the way out into the bay on a cross shore incase **** got hectic. its shallow down this way with 2 or so sand bars out about 50-100m usually never busy unless its hot, few kiters especially around gnotuck aspendale
