Hey Frosty,

Best winds for the east coast would be SE to NE 12 to 15 knots unless you are in a bay, best thing to do is to find a spot guys are kitesurfing, look for kiters that are coming in from a session and ask them to give you a quick run down on the location for your level.

Can be a pain in the arse when you are rigging up for a session and have to help out others....reason being is most kiters will want to help ya out but are keen to get out them selves, now you know the law..go forth and kite.

G'day frostie
The spot - where Onslow St meets the Esplanade.
There is a water scouts / navy cadets shed at one end of the grass area.
Direction S - SE can take an East but not good for beginner on a high tide as you are likely to get blown on to the shore. At low tide you can walk out on to the sand banks and rig / launch there. At its best at mid-tide. Yes it will take a slight North of east, but too much North and you have the wind coming over the headland at Caloundra - it gets turbulent.
As a rule, if it is on you should find a number of people there and find plenty of help, but do not assume it is experienced help!!
Most of the width of the channel is standing depth even at high tide. The last 100 metres on the Bribie Island side of the passage is deep(er) - it is the boat channel.

An alternate spot is lake Weyba inland of Perigian / Sunshine i.e. just south of Noosa Heads.

Mike usually posts forecasts for the day covering that area - www.kitethrills.com

Cheers
