Newbie ,,, like every one at some stage I've crashed the kite down pretty hard yesterday was the second time and the bladder plug /stopper has popped open and almost completely deflated my kite good job I was only 20/30 meters out so was able to get to beach safely
Is there any way I can stop this or is this a normal thing ,, the Velcro and elastic cord were in place both times Advice would be welcome

1. don't crash it hard - de power (let go of bar) before the kite hits the water

2. don't pump up the kite too hard

This is probably better than having the bladder tear open, which does happen.

Make sure you isolate the struts by pinching off the strut valves. At least then it wont sink if it happens again.

When it's time to upgrade make sure your new kite does not have this type in inflation/deflation mechanism. They are somewhat out of date now. Newer kites have a screw fitting which is much better.

Definately dont under inflate you kite!! That makes your kite fly like a turd (handling, water re-launch, jellyfishing ect)..

Most kites will have some velcro and elastic loop to put over the dump valve, check you have this or see if you can use a zip tie (make sure you have something to open them with at the end of your session), this will stop it from just popping out if you have a crash, also make sure you've properly pushed the plug in, its easy to forget to check this when your excited to go out for a sesh!

With practice you'll stop slamming the kite down (at least not has hard)..well untill you start going for new tricks then you start all over again

I've had this issue and doing what Green Cherub says above has helped me. Making sure the "out" valve is free of sand is another thing that I do as part of my set up routine. Dunno if it helps this issue but I figure that it cant hurt.

I have an older Core that does something similar. I moved away from the standard plug to a serrated one. The serrations act like teeth and grip the inlet bladder tightly. Never had it happen again however as the previous posts state it gets easier with experience. I picked a few up at my local kite store.

With time these push fit types of inlet valves stretch after being exposed to sun and heat and the plug does not grip as tight as it used to. Try putting a cable tie around the valve head to give some resistance as the plug is inserted. The plug should fit a lot tighter now.

thanks for the info
I managed to loop the elastic around the Velcro twice that seems to have done the trick
And like you's all keep saying practice and try not to crash too hard
Thanks

If you are crashing the kite hard go get a training kite and learn some kite control it will save your kite and those around you???..I never crashed a kite hard when I was learning so saying "like everyone" is not the case. Most people I know who invested in learning some kite control first by flying a trainer did not crash the kite hard when learning.
