Hi,

I have just bought a secondhand kite after a couple of lessons and wondering what would be a good choice for a board.

I want to do another lesson or two but feel I need to do some practice on my own to get the most out of it.

I am 105 kg and am located in SEQLD. A harness suggestion is also welcomed.

Hi Tom
Board size rather than brand would be you main consideration at 105kg you should look at minimum 144 x 44 as a first board maybe larger and wider depending on local conditions.
As for harness's, Flying Object Flight Control is pretty good for beginners , $200-220 with a lockdown strap to stop it from riding up makes it a really good budget choice.

Nobile Flying Carpet. Get a second hand $100 seat harness, try for comfort.

I'm about you size and can say that I like my flying objects flight control combo, like Todd says good having the ability to lock it down when you are starting out to stop it riding up, having said this there is only one way and that is to go try on every harness you can find until you are happy that you have found the most comfortable. I went to the shop intending to buy a cheapish second hand seat harness but the second I put it on realised I was better to spend twice the money on something more comfortable.

No idea on the board

toddws sounds right regarding the board. 2nd hand if you can, as you're likely to drop down a bit in size once you're more experienced. Comfort is the key with a harness. I bought new when I first started as that was the advice given. The mystic warrior waist harness was really comfy compared to most. Unfortunately, I didn't realise that I'd lose a few kilos after a while and should have gone a medium instead of a large. I've heard this from a few guys now, if you're in between sizes and starting out, go the smaller size if possible.

Cheers guys, just the sort of info I was after, happy to buy second hand initially until I know how everything works.

+1, I started on an XL harness but lost ten kg kiting last season so needed a smaller harness fairly quickly and bought a large. It's now the off season, so I will be starting the new season back on the XL harness

Absolutely.
Recommendations from others on harnesses means nothing. The best harness on the market is the one that suits you best.

And a medium in one brand may = large in another or = a small in another.
Try them all thoroughly.
And yes - go smaller if 1/2 way.
