Hey all ,
I have already started the gear collecting part of the sport .
My Kite quiver consists of a 15 and a 12, both Wainmans .
My board is an Underground Stella 150 , I have an old RRD twinfin directional form last century which may come in handy one day when my skills get up there its 197cm long 47cm wide , to me it looks like it may be fun but then again ...

My question is do I go a 9 or a 10.5 in the Wainman to make up my quiver is the 3 m difference a good rule of thumb between sizes ?

So far have had 2 lessons and just about up on the board , next lesson should see me up hopefully .

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to give me advice ,

Cheers Ant

Ok, 135kg with wettie etc on, flat water, 15 -25 knots seabreeze typically.

I am 100kg and running an 11, 14 and 17 for 10knots to 30knots. Not sure you need anything smaller but rather something larger.
I mainly use the 14 and 17 in Sydney with a North Nugget and only start using the 11 above 20knots with a surfboard.

at your weight id say you may be a touch underpowered on a 9, youll be ok at 25knts but below that youlll wish you had the 1o.5, the flat water helps as you havnt got swell, waves, and whitewash stalling your power delivery

I think ud b wasting ur money. I use 12 2 about 27knots . . . Ive considered a 10 but i can cope with the 12. Like windsurfing the optimum strength to water conditions is 15 2 25knt

Im 135kg @ 20 - 27knots im on a 138 x 43 by 12m kite . . . Powered having fun

I hope tis helpful

Just a bit more. . . Forget the large board as the stella is a great option. . . . But the day u step down to a smaller board as i have u will not look back and the stella will not be your first option. . . I dont have a full season yet under my belt yet and ride my 138 as much as possible which in tern has progressed my kiting quicker

135 kgs.....I will stay out of your way on the water, thats for sure.

You might want to consider a 17m kite or you will be watching from the shore a fair bit of the time...

At 135 you'd get closer to 40 knots on a 9 but doubt you'd be powered enough below 30. Go the 10.5

I agree. Dartboy, how many 30knt+ days would you have compared to 10-20knt days?

I use my 17 for around 15-20knts and then im on my 12. Sweet spot is around 23-25knots but starts feeling overpowered in the high 20's. I've only missed 1 session by not having a 10m as opposed to missing lots not having a 19.

I recall Cauncey saying there was a 21m edge available? Get that

Guys , thanks for the help . not even going to worry about a kite under 12 just yet till my skills are up and I find out where I am needing a bigger or samller kite . I think the 12 and 15 will do just nicely for this summer . If it really howling I'll jump on a slalom board and windsurf . Same if its 4 -10 knots I'll SUP with the kids .

4XL your my inspiration bro , same weight and still a relatively new kiter with windsurfing background , Brothers from different mothers .

Now on the lookout for a similar board to your 138 , Time to go shopping ! Any suggestions ??

Cheers ,

Ant

Fingerbone i'll attach a ships horn to the front of the Stella to warn of approaching cattle ship , Baaaarrrp Baaaaarrp

Question @ Cauncy & MDSXR6T, Sorry if it sounds dumb, but what year model is the 21m Ozone Edge. I thought they went from 7 up to 19m only

I ride a underground flx that I picked up cheap but anything around that 138 to 144 just make sure there is enough width. At first you will head down wind and think what am I doing, but once you dialled it in and have enough wind to drive upwind you will seek this board first.
