Hi guys,

A newbie question, I never hear of people kiteboarding around Bundeena / Jibbon head area, but on the map it looks like a good spot for a westerly, what is the reason?

Is kiting banned in this area or is there other reasons not so obvious?

Cheers,
Tav

Not sure about jibbon in a westerly, the wind might get a bit messy from the houses to the west. I reckon a N-NE would be ok. But, in summer its full of moored boats.

I'd be keen to check it out one day

I've kited Bundeena, just west of the pier in a nor easter. Not a lot of beach to launch. Pretty bumpy and dead on shore. People have kited Jibbon reefs in a nor easter, kiting over from Wanda. I'd not recommend it. For the very experienced only and a bit sharky.

In a westerly Jibbon would be very gusty. You've got a lot of high land not too far away.

I've also been thinking, what about Maianbar sand flat at high tide on a westerly?

Theres the sand spit (and power lines) to the east to catch you if something goes wrong, but maybe would have the same gusty issues with the high land nearbye?

I have a mate who lives in Bundeena, I've seen people kite there near Bonnie Vale campground in a NE'er. But this was before I started kiting.

If you go on the other side of the sandbar out past the point, you'll find butter flat water. The wind will be offshore, but the water is pretty shallow all the way out.

I might go for another trip down there this summer.

Anywhere near the Maianbar sandbar in summer is super crowded with swimmers and boats.

Midweek should be quieter. If it's OK, best to keep it to yourself
