Hi there,

I'm new to kite boarding with basic lessons under my belt. My initial lessons were on a 9m Naish Charger in which I felt out of control on (it was only my second lesson though and put it down to lack of kite control/knowledge). I then had lessons using a 6m Flysurfer (I weigh 50kg) and had a great time learning on that, although I did get thrown around occasionally. I am now able to get up on a larger board for some distance.

I am about to buy my first set up and have a number of concerns about what to buy.

I have been told that the North Rebel is a good kite and I particularly like the North bar. However, I like how they emphasise safety due to the 5th line but am a little worried about the possibilities of tangling. Is this real concern for a beginner and how easily and often does the 5th line get tangled?
Is the North Rebel an appropriate beginner's kite?

I have been told the North Fuse is basically a Rebel but a 4 line set-up. Is this truly the case and how appropriate is the Fuse as a beginner's kite?

I am also considering the Naish Bolt, but I hate the Naish bar due to its trimming/depower line design.

Also I was thinking an 8m kite was more than sufficient for riding around Brighton, Thomson beach (QLD) etc, however, a few people have recommended a 9m kite given that I won't be so keen to go out in really strong winds. A 9m makes me nervous given that I felt adequately powered by the 6m Flysurfer and the fact that I am reasonable small.

Advice please????

Being 50kg I would possibly suggest a 8 mtre rebel, I have owned 4 north kites all with 5th lines and have only had the 5th line wrap up the kite once due to inexperience. The 5th line has saved my bacon a few times. If your still concerned then I would also recommend the fuse which is also a great kite, this is my personal preference. Option 2 would be a 8-9 mtre Bandit 4, flew it last week and found it was great and very smooth with possibly less grunt and bar feedback than the north rebel. Horses for courses. Either choice would see you in a very safe and a good learning kite that would take you through to intermediate and onto advanced level. GB

Hi Nani
My daughter is 48kgs and she uses nothing bigger than a 8m
Its a delta style so it has a god bottom end, is very stable with great depower
On lighter days she uses my 135 board and normal time she has her 128 board
Most brands have kites in the delta shape and if you get 2010 or 2011 the depower is amazing.

The 8m is good for 13knot to 20+ (ellie comes in if it gets over 20 knots)

Enjoy

Rebel is gonna feel way punchier than the charger, the charger is a real soft delta,I would look at a smaller size 7-8m.
