Hi All

I have been training with a trainer kite on land, and seem to have the basics down pat..
Now is my next move to go to a wakeboard cable park for practice on the water, as I have never even ridden a wake board before, but have skated and Surfed all my life..
So question is is it worth the $$ for the wakeboard cable park practice before I get lessons for kit surfing.. Or am I wasting my time at the cable park as I have good balance as is..

Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers
Karl

Great move to practice with the trainer kit:
Imagine the wind window as the top half of a clock face, 9 o'clock on the left, 3 o'clock on the right and 12 o'clock at the top. Basic kite manoeuvre to get up onto your board (going right) is to start with the kite around 11 o'clock, a nice smooth turn down to around 2:30 and reverse your turn so the kite stays at 2:30 for your right hand run.
Left is just the opposite, Start at 1 pm, turn down to around 10:30 and again hold the kite there for your left hand run.
With this move as second nature you can focus on your feet and balance instead of watching the kite in your initial lessons.

As for the cable park, can't help you there, I've never been to one.

Welcome to this site and one of the most awesome sports I've ever done!

It's helped me! I went to the one at logan for an hour and it was worth the effort as riding a twintip is nothing like surfing or skateboarding. It's also a good opportunity to practice switch foot because if you're a surfer it will feel pretty weird. Remember to keep your front leg straight !!

Hi Wave1977,

In short - YES!
Cable parks are great to get used to riding and getting comfortable with water boards (preferably twin tip). Once you mastered a lap with your preferred foot forward try riding using your opposite foot forward, practice carving turns and edging on both toe-side and heel-side edges. Also don't expect to get up and carving on your first time, it takes time to get used to starting, if you can go for 1-2 hours a few days in a row it will help you improve more than going for 6 hours in one day. While it will never be the same as kite boarding it is great experience for beginners because it lets them focus more on flying the kite when they learn to get up rather than the board.
