Greetings,

Just a question regarding caring for my beautiful new Ozone C4 and Catalyst.

I have seen the threads around saying never to leave your kite in the back of a car for various reasons, but I have to have them in the car if I want to go for a kite after work.

My car has one of those hatchback sun guards that I can pull over anything in the boot to protect it from the rays, and the kites will be in their travel stuff sack and then placed within their backpacks. Surely this is fine? Or is it still a no-go?

In the same vein, will my board and harness be ok?

Id say just keep an eye on the temp forecast, if its over say 35deg maybe consider taking kites out night before.

I try to remember to leave my windows down an inch or so, just so it doesn't get hot enough to melt the valves off.

When I did work in Saudi the guys regularly had valves go after leaving kites in the car. The temperature inside a car is much higher than the outside temperature. If you're parked in the shade you're okay but if you're parked in the sun, you can expect to come back to a set of bladders where the glue has melted.

In that case I might have to bring them into work and leave them in the lockers.

What about boards/harnesses? Any delam issues?

I'm in the same predicament zarb. If I want flat water after work on a hot day I have to drive 20mins past the kite spot to grab my gear then backtrack 20mins. I can't park in shade or put my gear in lockers so there's no way I'm leaving my kites in the car if it's over 30deg.

Anyone tried getting a large eski and putting your kite in it along with a frozen ice cream container of water? I wonder if the kite would stay cool and dry or if condensation would be an issue?

Boards can also warp in the sun. Harness, bar and lines should be fine.

hi... guys... well I stayed in mozambique for a few years and it gets pritty hot there in summer 35 plus degrees in the shade. left my kite in the back of the ute but it was in a golf bag and it is lined, so maybe that is what protected it but also kept the window a little open between the canopy and the body.

Never really done this with kites. But have had surfboards in my car since the day I got my licence and so far haven't had any delam issues etc. my method is

Everything should be bagged, covered. Then I get an frozen drink bottle or similar and throw that inside the board cover. Then I get a doona and wrap the whole lot in it. Then maybe throw my car sun visor on top just to reduce rays.

Failing that I run the gauntlet with Gold Coast city council and perform a ludicrous park to get some shade.

How do you insulate a van to make sure this never happens as i will be living in it with lots of kites and chutes for a year. Will installing a wirly bird on the roof be enough? Im really worried about this
