My Kites have gone mouldy in the garage...and stink! Can they be washed in a washing machine with detergent?
Its not through under use either, I moved house and the garage is a pit!

Will this also work for wetsuits? Mine is kind of stinky with mold? Mildew? and rinsing with the hose and leaving it on the line for a few days didn't work.

This stuff is great for giving your wettie, rashie etc an occasional wash in. A bottle lasts ages.

As for your kites, if you really feel the need to wash/clean them can I suggest pumping them up and securing them in the back yard etc, hosing off then cleaning with a sponge and a neutral detergent. Then wash off again and be sure kite is dry before packing up again. Just my 2cents worth.

you will need something to kill the mildew. Only thing I've seen work on boat canopies, canvas and even car roof linings is vinegar. You can get “cleaning vinegar” from the supermarket or you can use white vinegar.

Wipe it over with a clean sponge and let it sit for a few hours then rinse off. The mildew/mold marks will still be there but the spores will now be dead. I've done boat canopies that have mold growing so thick that it is bumpy, scrubbed with a scrubbing brush and 2:1 vinegar/water. After washing like this the fabric was still black, checked back to the marina 2 weeks later and it was beautiful clean and blue again.

I had a spot near the corner of the sunroof in the car, very light colour roof lining. Just gently dabbed vinegar on it and left it. About a week later the spot was gone.

Some plp say bleach but it doesn't kill the spores just bleaches it so if the surface can take bleach (hard surfaces) it looks clean straight up but the mildew comes back.

to clean my wettie i simply put detergent on my body before putting it on, then go body dragging while holding the neck open so that water can rush through. as for the kite, keep it salty from the seawater and no mould will grow on it

do you need special detergent that works in salt water? and do you plug up your bunghole and cockhole?
