Hi everyone,
Really pleased to find a forum like this we would like to get as much info as possible before we begin. My husband and I are moving to Mount Eliza, VIC this summer. We plan on taking kiteboarding lessons then getting our gear. I realise we will be advised what to get by our instructor, but the more experienced advice the better!
To my understanding it would be wise to get a harness each but could we share a kite and board to begin with?
We are both about 172cm in height, I weigh 65kg and hubby weighs 81kgs. We are thinking second hand gear to begin with then could upgrade depending on how we go.....any advice would be great!
Cheers

The issue is going to be that your husband will need a 12m kite for most Melbourne conditions, where as you'd be better off on a 10m kite. Second hand is fine; any bow or SLE kite from the last few years (2008+) will do fine for your first kite.

You'll each want your own harness as you need one that fits properly. Best off buying a harness new so you can try it on in a shop and get the one that feels right for your body shape.

While koma is right that ideally 2 kite sizes are better, 16 kgs weight difference is not that much and you'll find that while learning, sharing the same kite and having turns is logistically easier and also quicker to set up and pack up.

Thanks for your replys.....we had our first lesson at Kite republic today! Unfortulatley we were only on the beach but covered off all of the theory.
It has been recomended that we get 2 kites, a 11mtr and 9mtr charger. I think we will see how we go at our next lesson and decide what to do then. They are offering second hand gear at what seems like quite a good price.
Cheers
