Hi All,

I would like some advice on which kite to get, it will be my only kite until i can afford a proper quiver, I can't choose one as I am a beginner and am going crazy with so many kite out there !

So i found this site
www.diamondbluekiteboarding.net
, and the prices seems good(?), it's in the US but they offer free shipping and i don't mind waiting if I can save a few bucks

I am a beginner, can cruise back and forth no worries, land some jumps but crash on most , actually sharing a Cabrinha SB 2008 but can't stand waiting on the beach for my turn, I definitely am adicted now
I am looking for a kite that will last, has good upwind capacity, and hang-time

I was looking at the Cult and Waroo package and can't make up my mind
any advice please ?

And they have package deal with the BEST spark board, anyone can tell me if it's worth it?

EDIT : I am 90kg and main spot is Altona VIC, should i go for the 12-13 m kites?

Thanks a lot

Hi Rem. I have flown last years cult (09) and rated it pretty high. It turns fast, has nice light bar pressure, boosts really well and is quite stable. It is grunty but also has a lot of depower. I rekon if the 2010 is similar it would be a good learners kite. I havnt flown the new waroo but have heard positive feedback from most best flyers so i think either of these kites would be an ok choice. (not biased cause i fly north) maybe try and demo a few. As with the deal you have found it seems really good. I would make contact however because i cant see the free shipping thing being for international customers. could b wrong though.

N0t sure about the winds in altona but at 90kg i would be guessing if the winds are around 20knt you would be doin ok on 12 or 13.

Good luck.

How do you share a kite? Surely one of you would just head about two hundred metres out and kite there until you could kite no more, ignoring all pleas of "It's my turn!!!" from the beach. Hmmm maybe you're just more patient than I could ever be...

Hey Beersy, there is no way I enjoy sharing a kite, freezing on the beach praying for a huge crash for my friend so he can't kite anymore...and the kite will be mine! MINE !!!! muahahah.....well...I am a student struggling for money and now addicted to kitesurfing, so I have to share, for now

Captainkaos, good to know you liked the cult, but because of my small budget I am not really looking at a beginner only kite, i would like one that will last long in the progression curve, is the Cult good for intermediate? (it's tough with the sigma thingy to know if it's good or just a marketing thing)

As for the website worldwide shipping it's free, i ordered a Naish harness (cheap but i don't like it) and a 135 Best spark board (i like it but since its my only board I have nothing to compare it to -_-)
The delivery took about 2 weeks, and the products were as promised. I think the prices are good, compare to what i can find on the web in australia, but I'm not too sure.

Anyway thanks, anyone can tell me a bit about the Waroo?

cheers

Can only tell you about 2009 Waroo, apparently 08 or 07 were better no idea about 2010, I started learnning on that piece of crap at the begining I was stoked with the kite but soon after when I was almost killed in the process I did change my mind and got rid of it , the kite is as slow as pregnant cow, in small gusts jellyfish like hell, must be pumped to the extreme preasurre of 10 psi !!!! and the bar.....if you are suicidal by all means use it.
There are many great kites and bars just do your homework and pick one, good luck.

Why is that kite you mentioned suicidal...is it because its an older kite and missing some safety features?

Ok I will try to be more precise, the kite as such is not dangerous, but it does become such in combination with Best bar and lack of sufficient warnning how you should never use this piece of ****, lets forget for the moment that your flying lines can become fryied within 3 months, that your depower rope is **** in 2 months, newq lines $180, depower rope $45 but suprise suprise you canot get 09 rope you get 07 but the depower throw is diffrent from year to year , the line calibration is diffrent from year to year, its the whole world of mess, just follow all these problem on Best site.
More important is the bar itself and so called big black QR something conceived by a person on drugs or preschool kid, if you follow int. forums youll find out about cases it didnt work at all, hope enough said if you want me to continue let me know, but the best thing is to forget about the copycats from BEST( they cant even copy the ideas of others proply) and get the right gear and most importantly the proper and safe bar that will inspire and give you con fidence to push the boundries. Good luck.

save a few bucks and then when it breaks expect support from a local shop ?

Hey Dusta,
If the prices are good in the local shops i'll buy there of course, but from what i've seen it's often more expensive in Australia... but i'll keep looking
And I don't expect after-sale support as i will be leaving Australia.

If money was of no concern believe me i wouldn't be looking so hard for the best deal...

Hey mate, sorry to hear you had so many bad experiences with the one bar. The few problems that were associated with the bar at the beginning were quickly fixed by the company. We warranted or fixed all issues at the start and the release of the Version 2 bar eliminated all probs associated.

Any problem that was reported to us was acted upon quickly and spare parts and replacements were sent out. The 2009 Waroo was a very successful kite and in my opinion was the best Waroo made. There was no Jelly fishing reported at all on this kite in Australia. Very solid, more c shape and better for freestyle then it ever has been. Waroo's didnt have to be pumped up to 10psi, however the Nemesis HP did so and could handle it, because it has the use of Cuben fibre in the leading edge.

Do you still have the kite or bar? Or did you sell it off to some other guy who now has a problem...

If you have an issue with a kite, the first place you take it is straight back to where you bought it from. Little hard if you purchase a kite from OS. There are bucket loads of specials to be had through Australian stores at the moment, and you will get backed up by service and warranty and even helped out if you are learning.

Diamond Blue wont be shipping Best into Australia any more, not sure about Naish but thats something that Naish Australia need to be on too. We need to help protect our industry in Australia as much as possible, otherwise shop owners will get the sh&ts and wont survive. If your leaving Australia then buy your gear when you get to your destination, because the money you think you will save on the purchase will most prob be lost on excess baggage.

All the best

Arsa, you did respond to my negative comments for obvious reasons, never or less I own you some clarification.
I did buy the kite locally, dont give a **** about bargains when it comes to my safety and stuff I buy for long term. In most cases the most expensive proves to be the cheapest and cheap crap cost you dearly in the end.
The depower rope was not covered by warranty I was told, didnt matter it was shredded within 2 months, sharp edges of that work of a madman (big black QR ) and imperfections on steel ring were blamed ( on BEST forum), Idid file both but believe **** and cheapest materials were to blame.
The middle lines lasted much longer , about 3 months after experience with depower rope I didnt question that just ordered new lines.
I dont remember version 1 and 2 of the bar, just presume you mean line colour, in such case I had version 1- solid colours.
10 psi~
let me quote sq from 15 Jan. 2009, he responded to the ? how to pump Waroo, " when your feet start to lift on downstroke stop, thats 10 psi"
Obviously you know better, but in my stupididy I thought that sq meant 10 psi and started using such preassure from that day.
IMHO the kite does need it, HP has the same preasurre , but its not extreme in this case.
I did sell the kite, do you think I should bin it, at least I sold 3 months old kite with brand new lines and depower rope for much less than half price.
Best has been distributing inferior, cheaply made by chinese slaves products for years and you do support it.
What did sq said when Kahoona was released, the materials are not the best but the kite is CHEAP.
The guy who bought the kite was an adult, I did warn him NEVER hook safety to any of the rear lines DO YOUHAVE such warnning in the manuals, do you tell people such important fact -I dont think so.
As far as I kn ow hes still alive and well did fly the kite in the last 10 months perhaps 5 times this is how many times I ride in a week.
People buy kites for diffrent reasons for some Warros and Best bars might be perfect especially when bought almost new for a fraction of full price.
Its funny that you think Warro 09 is one of the best , I did talk with some Best mad kiters and they toldme 09 was one they wouldnt buy, perhaps coincidence.
