Hi all,

I was just wondering where you can find up to the minute wind readings for the Perth kitesurfing spots. I know seabreeze has around 6 spots under the forecast but sometimes it is difficult to figure out what is happening at the location you want to go to if it is not one in the list.

For example, the past two mornings have had identical forecasts and I went to Point Walter on both. Yesterday was awesome and today was terrible. The nearest location on seabreeze is Melville but this doesn't cater for Easterly winds (as they will be blocked by the buildings etc) so on both days the actual wind speeds there weren't very high.

There must be a better way than waking up at 4am and hoping for the best. Any tips or is it just down to luck?

Hope that made some sense!

Cheers

The weather bureau are good for weather

www.bom.gov.au/wa/observations/perth.shtml

But seriously you just have to learn the signs for your local spot and correlate that with the 'official' observations and the forecast.

I know for here that my house creaks and groans differently for a seabreeze compared to an easterly but since the lives readings are now taken out at the wind farm (or Gingin airport) they are next to useless. Sometimes it feels like a black art working it out and I only live 500 metres from the beach, must be tough for those that have to travel further.

i might be wrong but the actual buoy that takes the wind readings is actually more towards pelican point and does actually report easterlies pretty accurately

I personally find the Ocean Reef live wind readings more accurate for Easterly winds when planning to go kiting at the river even if it's 26 km from there. It seems the wind readings around the river are a bit inaccurate especially when not strong

was out on the river cruising between peli point and melville and saw the marker with the weather gear on it and it is prob 500 nth of majestic point so anything other than a SE it is in the right spot to report it imo pretty accurate
