Hi all,

Just getting into the sport and looking to get a lot of session in over the summer. Had 3 lessons and looking to buy gear so I can practice, practice, practice! I have narrowed my choices down to two kites and would appreciate any ones feedback or recommendations on which I should go with.

I am 83 kg's and very much a beginner so looking for a set up that is easy to use.

Option 1 - 2015 12m Ozone Catalyst

Option 2 - 2016 12m Cabrinha Radar

I am leaning towards the Radar for its relaunch capabilities. But just wanted to know if anyone had ridden both and could provide their experience and thoughts.

Thanks a lot.

radar is a great kite to learn on but after one season you'll want something faster. i found this with the vector (superseded by the radar). i was luckily able to sell mine without losing too much on resale and bought parks which were a lot faster and have helped me progress more. i probably could of got straight on the park but it was more expensive & it might have slowed my progression.

Friend of mine had older catalysts and i really liked them don't think you can go wrong.

Thanks for the advice. Will look into the Switchblade as well. I would be stoked if I progress at your rate. Can't wait to be more confident and doing jumps etc. It keeps me up at night just thinking about it.

On looks I guess I am getting the Green Radar then.

Great advice. Am happy to get an easier kite to learn on and upgrade next season when I improve. Just don't want it to frustrate me too much and I get pissed off with it all and give up. Somehow I do not see this happening though seeing I was having fun just body dragging.

i know that feeling mate.
trust there will be A LOT of frustration but its part of the learning process.
it will last about 1-2 weeks of constant kiting until it clicks then the real fun begins...

Coming to a close of my first season in FNQ. I did lessons last season.

Bought a new 2015 Ozone Catalyst 12m in April and used it pretty much every windy weekend possible except where other commitments got in the way. So over the 6 months that's probably averaged out to 5 days a month.

It's taken me from body dragging to getting some pretty crazy air last few sessions. Love it. I've only ridden some other kites from my instructor and I'm still much a noob so I probably couldn't feel differences in kites anyway.

You probably can't go wrong with either.

Thanks mate. Appreciate the feedback. Catalyst was my first choice and then I came across the Radar; can't say I have heard anything at all bad about the Catalyst. I did buy an Ozone trainer kite as well, so maybe should be loyal.

Either way I will decide tomorrow as definitely getting something. Shame wind is looking average over the weekend here in Sydney. I will be itching to get out there once I get it in my paws.

Have a great weekend.

Go with the cheaper option as both kites are just as good as each other for what you want them for, either kites will easily see you through your first and maybe even second year kiting without too much problem.
