Hey guys,

I finally got my gear this weekend after three months of agonising pain in watching the season go by without me having gear...

Quick question, the foot straps on my board seems to be extremely small making me feel like one of Cinderella's ugly sisters. I can get them in but just barely. At the shop I was asked what size I wear which is a ten. Now I hear that I need to get them wet and this will make them 'shape' to my feet. Is this correct?

Just thought I'd ask before I get them wet and have troubles exchanging them...

THey definetly break in. THey'll fit great after 2 or 3 sessions. Make sure you check the hardware after every session for the first 3 or 4 as they will loosen as everything breaks in.

You may also find that your feet shrink........

My straps are over a season old so I dont think that they are streching anymore.... but I have found that they can be quite tight ( even difficult to wiggle my foot into ) at the start of a session but after about 10 -15min they need to be tightened. I put this down to the cold water shrinking my feet.... ever so slightly but enough to notice a difference.

Are your straps not adustable? You are correct in that they will soften up when wet and fit better - but unless you have bindings, I don't think I have seen straps that do not have an easy "one size fits all" adjustment system.

Yep, just like a waist harness when they're dry they'll be quite tight. After 10-15 minutes in the water they'll loosen up considerably.
Its likely that they'll take a couple of sessions to bed in and then a few more sessions to mould to your foot a little bit. At the end of your first season they should be perfectly moulded to your foot and nice and comfy.

Thank you for all the guidance guys, sounds like the only thing left to do is to get them wet...

Paradox - they are adjustable, it is just that the padding is extremely thick and at the part where my toes are sticking through is very narrow, so I was just worried that my feet would die due to lack of blood leaving me with two dead weights in the water. But also on the other side, I usually wear 10.5 size shoes (I have very flat feet), if it wasn't for my mother's appearance, I would have thought I was made in China...

I've got new stuff and in the first few sessions I was forever changing them tighter then looser then tighter...

I hope they bed in soon and I can set and forget.
