hello everyone,
im new to kitesurfing (and totally clueless) so i hope im not repeating a question that has been asked many times on this forum :( (ive searched the forums but the reviews seem a bit dated back to 2006/2009)
Does anyone have any input on which is a better location/better bet to learn kiting this winter, next week in fact: Townsville or Mackay? i would only be heading up for about a week, so am hoping i choose the right location with higher chances of better wind! would thus appreciate some advice from the experienced kiters.
also, im having trouble convincing my girl friends to learn kiting, as such im kinda looking for a girls kiting community that i can join and learn from. where should i start! :0
thanks so much anyone!!!

They both have some pretty good spots, from memory Mackay (near marina) is probably better wind wise in a south easterly but you get some decent chop which makes it difficult to learn. Townsvilles main spot (Pallarenda) is a lot flatter due to its protection from Maggy but isnt as good wind wise from that direction. Once the sea breezes kick in later in the year I reckon Townsville would be better.

I am from Townsville and only today has the wind started to pick up, as part of the expected 2013 season. So we could be in for some early weeks of 20+ knots for at least this week, and hopefully until Nov when it usually dies down again. So if you're heading up, noe is the time.
Mackay is more consistent and gets good winds for longer. Definetely worth checking out.
But if you want to hook up with the female groups here, definetely give Marvin a ring from InTheLoop kite surfing. He'll introduce you to the right people. Good winds!

Everyone kites at Town Beach in Mackay, miles of beach, safe as houses and shallow enough to be safe but not dangerous. It is tide dependent, but if the winds up there is always someone around.
Locals are friendly and will help you out with landing/launching.
Joe and Mel usually have their trailer parked at Town beach during the week and Saturdays, so pay them a visit first and they will give you the low down on the area.
I rate Mackay as one of the best places I have come across to learn.
don`t go to habour beach, it is not for beginners.
PM me if you want to hook up or need anymore info.

Would love to go to Mackay for a weekend-er. Anyone here that kites, regularly commute from Townsville? Hook up sometime?
