So, my board is 40cm wide and the GoJoe leaves about 1-2 inches on both sides. But when I go across the chop, I can surely feel that it catches the chop and I eventually crash. Does anyone else notice this problem? Is my board too narrow? I am about ~65 kg and use a 135x40 board. May be, I am over-thinking. Thanks.

I suspect you are right and it has to do with your boards width.

Mine is 42cm wide and I have never had an issue.

I also suspect that as your technique improve you are going to be less impacted by it... Still annoying though.

Hahaha I saw someone with one of these the other day, solid kook material if you ask me, you are better off going with bindings and a board leash.

They have their place. Particularly useful if there aren't many people around and you are practising new tricks where you might crash the kite - a lot...

My board is only slightly wider at 134x41 and I can't say I have noticed it catching the chop (although I have only been out in thigh high chop so your conditions may be worse). It could be that 40cm width is the smallest - or possibly that my board handle point is positioned slight more toe side of the centre.

Kitesurfers live for the wind on water. Wind on water equals chop. If the Gojoe struggles in chop... its about time you mastered body dragging my friend!

Thanks for giving your perspective. 40cm seems to be the border line.

Yes, I am decent at body dragging, but somehow the GoJoe helps me to spot the board easily. For that reason, I leave it in there. Thanks for your inputs. I would love to get rid of it.

When I first started kite surfing my heals use to catch the chop and sometimes pull my feet out of the straps. My technique must have got better because it doesn’t happen any more and I can’t really say what I changed. I imagine the same improvement will happen with the GoJoe, if you keep it.

Take it off. Then when flyingcab is distracted mount it to his board and proceed to mock him for being a kook.

Oh clearly if you haven't seen anyone, it neverrrr happens

One suspects your definition of tricks may be somewhat higher (and more stringent) than my definition (despite this being the newbie forum)

Its always been a fun thing to do on holidays to mess with the locals, rock up with my old 2008 slingy and pretend to be a kook. Ask to borrow someones pump, accidentally pump up with the deflate valve. I have to be wearing my buckle up bucket hat, pfd, etc, then when someone asks if i need any help I quickly cut in and whip out a classic back mobe. Keeps them all stunned and less judgemental.

If you want to get rid of that GoJoe shoot her my way, could help with the act!

Yeah at times I have thought that a Gojoe would be useful - Once when I was learning I got teabagged about 30-40 meters after losing the board in about 25-28knts probably a bit too windy for my ability at the time. Even though I could bodydrag upwind alright I never found the board again after about what seemed like hours but probably only 20 minutes I gave up and came ashore. It turned up on the other side of the bay and luckily I got it back otherwise I was looking at another $500 bucks for a board and probably would've sat out the remainder of the season. I think Gojoes are cheaper than that. I gave up worrying about if I look like a kook years ago. So if anyone has gotten too cool for skool and wants to ditch the Gojoe let me know oh!

You get some really unhelpful idiots on this site. mate, ignore them. Don't be pressured to drop the go joe if you still have a need for it.

I had a friend who bought an inner tube from a wheelbarrow and spray painted it a bright color. He mounted it under the board handle and then inflated it.

It would make the board easier to spot and allow it to often float upright after a crash. This makes downwind drifting I of the board more likely and therefore makes it is easier to retrieve.

Give that a go if you want. $10 option including paint.
