Hi all, long story but some 8-9 years ago I bought 2 kites both North Rhinos 9 and 16 C kites . Also a new Airush square 1 board . Short story was scared the crap out of myself second day just launching the kite and it all got packed away.
Well now I would like to do it properly so will go and get lessons first . Is the square one still a board to use for learning or are there better options these days ( i am 115kgs and 192 cm) .
I guess learner kites I will get a good feel for from ones I use during lessons but some advice on brands and models would help.

Will the brand new North Rhinos ever have a use in future ? Does seem a shame that they may never see the sky again.

Thanks for any thoughts,

Cheers,
Ant

You can try to sell them on eBay to some poor sucker but my advice (instructor 7 seasons) is to leave them in the bag or take advantage of one of the 'trade-in-your-****ty-old-gear' deals advertised here on Seabreeze.

The Rhinos were high performance kites during there era but, compared to the kites produced since 2007, are really just old donkeys.

Probably the same goes for the board. Older gear retards your learning progression.

Get kite selection advice from your instructor and LOCAL kite shop. Most advice on Seabreeze regarding brands is biased towards whatever brand the poster is selling at the time. Develop a relationship with the local kite shop and your path to kitesurfing will be much more fun!!

Try before you buy and be aware of your limitations. Please.

Just be aware that some kite shops don't always give unbiased advice. You wouldn't be the first beginner to be sold stock the kite shop couldn't sell. I would suggest talking to local kiters if possible. The advice about trying before buying is spot on. When you get lessons you will also get a good feel for the gear. Being a big guy doesn't make it easy to learn, you need decent wind and a decent instructor. But hang in there, if you catch the bug you'll be hooked.

We will give you the right advice and do have kites in stock that will suit you AND we will trade in your old kites for 25% of the value of a new kite.

The Square one was a good board back in the day, but now boards have a lot more progressive flex and are much easier and more comfortable to ride. You don't have to break the bank to get a new board either, as we would trade the board too.
Give the guys at Kitepower Geelong a call, they have access to all our stock in Sydney and Brisbane too, so lots of kites and boards to choose from.
