Went out this morning (shift worker) for a kite, down at pinnas-deserted. Rigged up my kite, pysched to get some time learning to waterstart with no one around to get in their way... But as soon as kite got in the air I got teabagged all over the joint. Gust up to 20, back down to 15... back up, back down...

Needless to say it was not cool, Is there any way to make the kite more tolerant of turbulence (from my skydiving experience I know 1/2 brake makes the canopy more tolerant of wake...soooo....)

it's a northerly.

That's why nobody was down there. What size were you on? Also that wind is unsuitable for learners as its cross offshore or even offshore.

It's hitting the land then bouncing over the dunes losing power. Hence the gusts from turbulance.

Do what I did today.

Go somewhere where the wind is going to work better for you.Try the other side of the city towards applecross. I had fun and was powered on the 10 I was using. I only got an hour in but it was still a very good hour.

Sometimes it's better to stay at home rather than waste your time with wind you know is dodgy.

if its a northerly kite on the river, stupid for a beginner to go out on an offshore wind . what if something happened and you could not release from your kite . you would be dragged away from the beach .

Nor easterly this morning, I do have the advanced IKO certification and a Bronzey so I'm not one to be scared of doing dangerous things (hence the skydiving background)... Just stupid I guess, Bought a new board on Thursday and havent had a chance to use it yet and its burning inside me dammit...
Ahhh I see, well thanks for the advice lads, I was safe and courteous to other beach goers.

Well tomorrow is supposed to be onshore Southerly so hopefully I can get up then...

Yes you are. I had a gap of 3 years to pursue skydive and BASE jumping. I have how you say... lost the edge.

InfiniDIE, Having IKO means you are a qualified kiteboarding instructor. Is this the case or did you do lessons with a IKO instructor learning to kiteboard?

errr no, I meant what I said. I have an advanced Kiteboarded qualification from IKO. Meaning I did lessons with AKS to Advanced... Sorry for any misinterpretation. I think you are reading into things a bit too much.
