I think I made a mistake going for a surfboard right after lessons. Im heading in and out of the surf ok, and staying up wind, etc. but turning around is tough!

2 problems:
- i come out of the turn and the kite is dying and flopping and has no power to propel me on the new tack.
- i come out of the turn back to front and when i try to change feet i lose control of the board and bum dunk.

Any tips appreciated!

Hey Dave,

Should only take a few sessions to nail it, but seems impossible at the start. Stick with the surfboard as it's awesome.

>> Kite is dying ..

could be because your arc is too wide (heading downwind too long, catch up with windspeed, so kite depowers), or not timing your kite turn so that it's generating power as you exit the turn. If you try turning the kite/getting it in position earlier... it can help to practise your kite timing on it's own, without the complexity of gybing your feet as well.

>> come out of the turn back to front

Everybody does. Don't sweat it. Takes a few sessions to nail it, but once your get it, you get it!

I wrote this article on how to gybe your surfboard ... hope it helps..

www.seabreeze.com.au/Articles/Kitesurfing/How-to-gybe-a-surfboard_2165971.aspx

p.s. The article is about strapped, but I'd recommend going strapless as soon as possible, as it's soooooooo much more fun, and safer on your knees.
