yeah noahsky it's definitely not that heavily scratched. I would simply sand it and/or use a very sharp blade to cut off the peeling parts to give it a smooth texture... but you probably won't feel any difference on the water...

Yep sand it back. Is it resin? or plastic? if plastic sand it and carry or. If resin you could consider a hot coat of resin. In thruth I'd just sand it and carry on unless there's scratches into the core then you need to apply some fixing.

Mate that base looks like Ptex wax, if you go on eBay you can buy ptex candles for around $10 for 3, watch some youtube tutorials and you learn how to fill in the deep scratches pretty easy. I have been doing this to my cable park board for the last year and people actually comment on the good condition of the board, especially when they learn its been used at the park for 4 seasons.
- even better if you can get your hands on a ski/snowboard iron and put the wax on like that.

Yamikuza if there was any wind I wouldn't even of looked at it! What do you do when theres no wind, no surf and time on your hands?? Check your gear!...and hope

I have a board I damaged putting into the car that I use in places with shallow water, like Thailand. Riding up onto the sand smooths out all the scratches and gouges from the coral and rocks... grinds away the base layer graphics too though, but doesn't affect the handling.

I haven't used the iron before but when I melt it on I don't sand it back first as the wax fills the holes.
I then sand it after to make the repair flush with the un-repaired section
