Hey guys,

I'm a 60 kg kitesurfer chic searching for a new kitesurfboard for small to medium sized waves, will most likely surf in torqay. What shape /size / volume do you recommend? i had a 5.11 f one but was struggling with the length of the board my feet always felt too far apart for balancing the board properly. Also a lot of shorter boards seem to be wide, so I'm wondering if i will manage to keep the board plain whilst riding upwind...

Have you had a chance to take any of the women specific surfboards out for a spin?

I'm 180cm, 78kg and I normally ride with a bit of a wider stance. I rode firewire hellfire 5'6"x19" (24L), a regular surfboard 6'2"x18", North Kontact 5'10", Naish Global 5'10",...

Now I ride BW DHD White Noise 5'11" and I have to say I like riding this one the most. I was worried about the width and volume, but it turns out that it's perfect for small and medium waves. Even surfing in 3-5ft on the beaches around Torquay! It's showing a few heel dents in the front, but nothing major. It's light, but not superlight like a regular surfboard but far from heavy. It rides and feels as an actual surfboard, which is important to me.

The other kite brand surfboards were all on the heavier side and stiff on ride.

The 6'2" surfboard was a big miss as it was too long and way too light. As soon as I was airborne, the board flew off. It was all over the place in the chop too.
Firewire was too short as I couldn't carve into turns - I just dove into water.
Kontact and Global were pretty fun to ride but stiff and on the heavier side.

I'd go with a 5'6" or maybe even smaller and look for a short board with not that much width. I'm around 85 kgs and ride a 5'8" board when I go to torquay, my board doesn't have much volume either. I'd go for something smaller and less buoyant board so you can chuck your weight around on the board easier, If you go a 5 ft board on some big waves the nose might dig in, you just have to find that sweet spot.

thanks for your answer. No i did not have a chance to take the girl specific surfboards for a spin. I did not even know that there are gurl specific surfboards around. I'm aware of twintips for girls, but not surfboards. Can you name brand and type?

It's a smaller WAM for girls I think.

I am taller and heavier (165cm 67kg) and at the moment I ride a 5'6'' for Perth beach break and love it.
I would go with a 5'5''-6'', max 5'8''.

If you can, try to demo some surfboards. You will know when you find something you like

Thanks for yor advise, luckily I found a used woohoo 5'6 on gumtree and bought it straight away after talking to the owner who happen to be similar height/weight. AWESOME
Cant wait to take it for a spin...
