Hi all,

I have a 2011 Ozone C4 (11m), as well as a 17m 2011 Zephyr and a 2010 8m Catalyst.
Love my Zephyr and Catalyst, but I am having a few problems with the C4 falling out of the sky.

It mainly happens when the bar is sheeted out, trying to carve on waves, or just after stuffing up a jump. When I stuff up the jumps, it's not a case of me going past the kite, it will happen equally as often with the kite at 45 degrees and in front of me. The wind speed doesn't seem to matter, it happened a few times in 20+ knots where all the other kites out were drifting nicely.

It never happens with either my Zephyr or Catalyst. Whenever I stuff up jumps or even when I overshoot my kite on these kites, they just drift nicely with completely slack lines until they become taut again.

Any ideas about what is happening? Do C shape kites just not drift?

Hey Zarb,

how does the kite fall out the sky? Does it list lazily to one side, or does it nose dive?

I've moved to North Rebel and Vegas from a four line system, and they're great kites, BUT if it gusts or wind drops, then the leading edge nose dives and that's all she wrote. 1 out of 2 times the kite seems to turn itself inside out leaving me buggered.

My Zephyr and Catalyst list lazily and slowly drift downwards in those scenarios. But the lines are always able to be pulled taut and the kites controlled back up. There is never a time when the kites don't have wind over the canopy.

The C4 however, nose dives, spins around, then falls towards me spiralling. As soon as it happens, the kite is completely uncontrollable and without power with no tension in the lines (not even close). The kite will often land as close as less than a lines length away from me.

Well at the moment the C4 is out of action anyway. I went to pump up the kite this afternoon and found a leaking valve Good chance to hire some other brand kites to demo some options for 2014

Geez, you can't catch a break. That C4 sounds as volatile as it's namesake.

Like i say, sounds similar to my North 5 line experience to date... It's not so bad now I'm more used to them, as for the most part, I was causing certainly helping create the conditions when they fall out the sky.

Good luck with it. I had a different, but equality bad experience with a used Airrush Lithium. I Just rid of it in the end and haven't looked back. New gear is always a great way of addressing your issues!

yeah mate that's just a characteristic of the c4. I used to fly switchblades and they would always just fly backwards and catch themselves. But because of the c4's profile and bridling you'll will find they do tend to Hindenburg. You just need to improve your skill set and the issue will go away unless it's really light. Helps to only fly 1 model of kite but if you like your diversity you'll just need to become accustom to each kites characteristics when jumping etc. enjoy.

Honestly, I think my Lithium problem was lack of experience. It would be my 9m high wind winter kite... and I found it felt as powerful as my then 12m. It frequently felt like it was pulling me vertically out of the water and on more than one occasion it lifted me straight off my board (whilst standing up) and into the air a 1m or so. Which as a newbie, was ... scary.

It seemed well made etc. but I think at the time, it was easier to blame the gear than the user.
