I'm about to book a week away over the NY for the sole purpose of getting myself from a beginner (had 3 solid days learning earlier this year) to a level where i feel confident to take my gear out in Sydney.

I've spent the last few days reading up on different places and have ended up with a shortlist. I guess i was hoping for some last minute tips before i decide where I'm going. Deciding factors are
> consistency of wind at this time of year
> availability of a kite school so i can get further instruction
> conditions including depth (being able to stand was really helpful), waves and numbers of other kitesurfers
> How long will it take to get there - i don't want to waste days in transfers or bus rides.

1. Philippines - Boracay: I've heard the weather and schools are great. I'm not fussed either way about the nightlife. I an worried it'll be over crowded though?
2. Vietnam - Mui Ne: Seems like it has good schools and plenty of wind, also pretty simple to get to. I've read a few comments about how rough it is but i'm not sure if it would be prohibitive to learning.
3. Thailand - Hoa Hin: Weather sounds good if sometimes a bit light, schools also, but I've also heard it can be crowded
4. Thailand - Pranburi: Reading up on the two schools there it seems like the place is perfect. A few people have commented on large waves making learning hard - but perhaps i'll need that anyway if i want to surf in Sydney

If i'm missing a place please let me know, otherwise i'd appreciate feedback from anyone who has been to these places around Dec-Jan

Mate, come to Western Australia, fly for the forecast to be almost sure of the wind. Been only to Sri-Lanka but talked to people who tried other places in Asia and they don't come close to what we have in Perth at this time of the year (quality of spots, crowds, quality of water, etc). Overseas kiting schools are not dirt cheap - you will be still paying $50 per hour or more for instructions. Save on travel, visas, come to WA would be my advice.
